Hi, I'm looking to see how some of you store your extra Barrels? Not entire uppers.. I also have a
12ga shotgun barrel 26" that is going to be out of the gun for long term storage as I have a 20" home defence barrel on the gun now. I know to clean and lube it well but want them protected from dings and scratches without interfering with air circulation. I don't want dampness to form.. Thanks George

You have a 26" 12 gauge barrel for an AR-15? I think you may be in the wrong forum....

Keep the barrels well oiled and in a case and they will be fine. Throw a couple packs of silica gel in with them to keep moisture down.

I'm no expert and I did not stay in a Holiday Inn last night but, ...

For my 870 and extra 28" barrel, I took an old pair of jeans turned inside out, placed the barrel along the outside seam of one leg and even with the bottom, cut the leg (front and back) to fit, had the wife sew it up and across at the top, turned it back blue side out and voila, a nice sleeve with the double seam from the bottom of the leg as the opening. I now keep it in the same bag as the 870 with the 18.5" barrel.

I got a couple extra holders for my gun safe and mounted them to the wall. Added vel-cro straps to hold them upright. We have plenty of moisture here,so I don't leave anything in a "sock" or case. They will draw moisture and the evil rust. Frog Lube does work wonders too. I have also had friends that had good luck buying PVC pipe to fit with end caps. Add silica packets/pads and works great so far. Just need to keep an eye on them. Summer heat,we can have 80-90+ humidity.

Wipe the barrels down INSIDE & OUT with RIG UNIVERSAL GREASE and wrap in wax paper. Then wrap that in aluminum foil. It will remain rust free and preserved for a long long time to come!

CHEAP way to Store shotgun barrels.

I have stored barrels in a yard sale golf bag at gun shows. ($1 -
$2)

Cut pieces of 1 1/2 inch PVC pipe to a length that allows the mounting ring to rest on the PVC and keeps receiver end of barrel off the bottom of bag. (Muzzle UP) The 1 1/2 inch PVC works for Remington 870 /1100.

Slug barrels with rifle sights will need 2 inch PVC for the rear sight to fit in the tube.

I get short/scrap pieces of Schedule 40 PVC from a plumbing shop for free. If you have enough barrels to rattle around you can slip some more PVC over the muzzle end also.

Any oil or grease will not be a problem with PVC.
