Default Chasing Tail

I watched History Channel's (which is in a need of being renamed) new show called Chasing Tail, which is supposed to be a hunting show. Sort of. It's a bunch of guys from Vermont who go to the Connecticut suburbs to deal with nuisance deer and do it bowhunting. I'm not sure I could do it, even if I did bowhunt. These are the same rich snobs who whine because the deer are eating their petunias and want them gone off their property but would be first to say the average person should not own a gun. I'm sorry but from the attitude of most of those uptight blue bloods I think I would rather enjoy having them replanting their flowers all the time and stepping in a pile of smart pellets.

I liked it for a first episode. I did notice one hunter climbing up to his treestand with his quiver of arrows hanging off of his backpack... not safe!
I like that they are all accurate bowhunters and know what they are doing, they are not just targeting "trophy bucks", and they enjoy what they do, and are providing a service that does promote hunting.
I'm waiting for the episode when thet are harrassed by PeTA and the deer birth control crowd.
It would be good if they donated some of the venison to a food bank like "Hunters Feeding the Hungry."
What it is doing is sending out the message that hunting is a game management tool that can be applied to the urban environment.
If you're young, dumb, and full of... watch "Jersey Shore."

Oh boy, we get another "reality" show where we have a bunch of characters who brag how good they are and tell us how bad the others are. Not on my TV. I watched the first episode and won't watch it again. Perhaps if they concentrated on their hunting techniques but not what I saw last night.

I have better things to do with my life than watching reality shows.
But to each his own.

I know there are people that young, but is anyone dumb enough to go chasing that crowd?

"Reality TV" is, with very rare exceptions, a complete misnomer. The biggest oxymoron since "new and improved".

"We" encroach and diminish their habitat. Then the previous inhabitants need to be eradicated as pests by the new pests. As old as the ages.

I learned Bow hunting from a master. Keith Schuyler wrote the "Straight From the Bowstring" column
in the PA Game News magazine for years.

I grew up with his sons and family. He took me under wing early for bow. If you wanted to hunt with him you had to put six arrows in a 9" paper plate at 20 yds.

I'm talkin recurves in the 60's. No sights, no cams, just a three finger glove.

He put the "blood cross" on my forehead after my first and said a prayer for the deer. I'll never forget.

I watched it too and thought it a good example of hunting. My brother used to do similar in our Dad's old neighborhood. He used to shoot some nice deer and not disturb a soul with his bow. I never joined him as I could have done the same off Dad's deck although that wouldn't have been sporting.
I did find some on the show to be braggarts but you'll find that in any deer camp especially by olde phartes like me that can't be proven otherwise. I'll give it a few more viewings before I decide on the show.

My buddy once offered me a handfull of block permits to rid deer from his farm. I declined and Gray asked why since I was a deer hunter. I told him I was a hunter but have seen the deer herds on your farm and I'm not a deer shooter either. Hopefully he found another more into that.

Wow, easy guys...

I live in the county where this was shot...

My town hires hunters to cull the deer...

Deer do thousands of dollars of damage.

They eat up over $2000 worth of my privacy trees this winter.

They get hit by cars.

We arent allowed to hunt because we dont have enough land. I live in a 1 acre zone, in town ic can be half or quarter.

If you have the land you can hunt...

I dont know what town or towns this was shot in?

Next we can deal with wild turkeys...

I wouldn't mind seeing a few thousand Canadian geese skewered on a reality show.

I watched this show last night as well. I thought it was hysterical when the guy was bowhunting off of the back deck and the homeowner, female, comes out and starts raking leaves out in the back yard while he is there. I couldn't believe he went down and asked her what she was doing while he was trying to hunt. He was upset. I was surprised when she told him she was raking leaves and if he helped they would get done sooner! He helps her and then she says well now we have to fertilize!!! That is when I lost it. Now that is what I call working for your dinner! That was funny. I didn't care for the language but still it wasn't a bad show. In our town you can bowhunt but it has to be on a 5 acre lot with written permission.

As much as I appreciate Heart and Bachman Turner Overdrive, skewering would be fitting punishment for inflicting Neil Young and Celine Dion upon us...

they do this in my town too. every year conservation sets the number of licenses available. bows only and not within a certain distance of houses, plus some other restrictions. they always take a couple of hundred. this is in a town of 25,000 or so in iowa.
