Just thinking about this as i was watching a movie
last weekend. (Outlaw Josey Wales) One of my all
time favorites. Chief Dan George was in this one as
well as playing a great part in (Little Big Man).

Also like Wes Studi and his work in (Last of the Mohicans)
among others.

So who are your favorite Native American actors ???

Jay Silverheels for his protrayal as the original Tonto, he played the part with intelligence and grace, Adam Beach in various roles both in movies and television, Graham Greene on "Dances with Wolves," and I agree with Chief Dan George and I use his line, "endeavor to persevere," when referencing a nearly impossible situation.

Greetings,

You picked exactly the two I was going to pick!! Both have been outstanding in their portrayals, though quite different in presentation and scope, me thinks! Wes Studi can REALLY play a cold-hearted savage, when the role calls for it!! In both Mohicans, and also Dances with Wolves (where he played "the bad Pawnee), Wes was very scary and convincing!! Of course, Jay Silverheels should make the cut, too, as he was way ahead of the pack, in The Lone Ranger, "back in the day"! Good idea for a thread, and I hope others will chime in with a few more good NA/Indian actors or actresses. Take care, and God Bless!

Every Good Wish,
Doc

P.S. I see that some one else picked Graham Greene, who is also one of our favorites. His tongue-in-cheek portrayal of an Indian, in Mel Gibson's "Maverick" was hilarious!! <LOL!!>

Hmm, for one of the most powerfull portraials I gotta go with an old commercial against littering.
Hey. it's stuck with me for what, 40 years?

Follow up does go to Chief Dan George (born as Geswanouth Slahoot) , so many movies, and even though he basically played the same character in each, all were memorable.

Chief Dan George, Jay Silver Heels, and Will Sampson are my Top 3. Sonny Landham did a great job in "48 Hrs" and "Predator".

I guess Frank DeKova isn't a good choice ... ;)

graham greene in clearcut or wes studi in last of the mohicans.
i "met" chief dan george when i was in kindergarden, i guess he toured the schools telling stories of the old days. i have also referenced his "endevour to perservere" and also "its a good day to die" always spoken in my best chief dan george voice or "its hard rock candy, but its not for eatin, its for lookin through"

I have to say Wes Studi. He has been in not only westerns but played a cop in Heat. He did well as Famous shoes in Streets of Laredo, he was in Comanche Moon, Into the West, Dances With Wolves as well as Last of the Mohicans. I think maybe he and Graham Greene, I think his acting in Maverick was a riot.

I believe it was established afterwards that Iron Eyes Cody was actually of Italian decent...
