Default SOME NEW PISTOL RUGS - REVIEW

So I decided to buy a few new pistol Rugs (soft sided pistol cases) from both Smith & Wesson and Colt that are both being sold on their websites. Why - I have no idea since I have a ton of them already, but be that as it may I guess I just liked 'em.

Anyway, the Colt Rugs are absolutely gorgeous, thick sheepskin padding, leather accents, good zippers, barrel retention elastic inside, and are just marvelous pistol rugs. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM!!

The Smith Rugs just came on Friday and while the outside is embroidered with their logo and they are made by Allen, they are just OK in my opinion. They are not nearly as thick and padded as the Colt Rugs and they have a smooth non fleece interior. I won't say they are terrible it's just that after receiving the Colt's first, the Smith's were somewhat of a let down. I am keeping them and will use them, but for those of you who have Colt Pistols, go onto their website and order yourself a few of the Colt Pistol Rugs - you will NOT be disappointed. They are the best Rugs I own!!

Sounds like the Colt's rugs might be BagMasters under cover. They are some of the nicest rugs I've seen in a long time.
Thank-You for the review on the two.

If anybody is interested they come in three (3) sizes.

Colt 9in Soft Pistol Case - Shooting Accessories W2929 : Colt's Manufacturing Company LLC

The S&W Rugs are only available in one size:

I've always used Boyt pistol rugs, & I have been very happy with them. All of my handguns have one, except for my Hi Power, which has a Browning logo rug. It helps to tell it apart from the others! For the latest addition to the "family", a Model 4513TSW, I ordered one from Boyt, but it was on back order. I shopped around & found the Boyt at Brownell's in the size I needed. When I received it I was a little disappointed, because it came without the zippered side pockets that all my other rugs have, & instead of the usual plush interior, it had a copper looking material. This is what they call their "Intercept" technology, to prevent corrosion. I need to read product descriptions better.

Brownells has a 100% satisfaction guarantee if I remember correctly. If it doesn't meet your standards, just send it back.
Why keep something you're not happy with?

I can live with it, I just need to read product descriptions more carefully, like I said in my earlier post.

If you don't like them, you can always make them into throw rugs for your shotgun....

wax paper & a thick brown paper bag works fine for me...helps to leave more room in the safe too...

seriously...after you get a dozen or more Boyt's & various other quality rugs the cost adds up & they take up more space...

I haven't even mentioned the plastic factory cases...I keep all of those outside the safe for range & travel duty...

nothing wrong with being frugal once in a while....

with the money you save on rugs you can buy a good bottle of scotch (or whatever is to your liking), and you get the heavy duty brown paper bag for free

I only use Rugs to bring my shootin' irons to the Range, a Match or on a Hunting trip. I store the guns in their original Factory boxes. Those few guns that I bought without Factory boxes, I procured on line or at gun shows.

Some of my friends evan throw out the original boxes which I gladly will take (personally I think they are nuts) - as they say they take up too much room in their safes. Since NONE of my guns are new enough to come in the bulky plastic boxes I do not have a space issue in my safe . The cardboard boxes are relatively well sized to the guns and really don't waste too much space.

I bought these new Logo rugs just 'cause I thought they looked cool!

I agree with you on the idea that throwing away factory boxes or cases is insane. If you should ever want to sell a gun, factory packaging may not mean a lot to some people, but it does to me. Whenever I buy a gun that comes with factory packaging(or not), I place it in a Boyt rug, & the factory stuff goes in the top of the closet. I don't have a safe, so space available doesn't concern me. I like the rug storage for corrosion & finish protection. I really don't see how anything less could protect the pistol.
