Great post and super pictures. OK...I'll be the one. It trips my trigger to see the words "Congressional Medal of Honor", especially on a monument. I'm certainly not trying to tarnish PFC Doss's accomplishments, but I don't think that is the correct name for the Medal on his monument. I believe it is simply referred to as "The Medal of Honor" or..The Medal of Honor as Authorized by Congress" Never as the Congressional Medal of Honor". It is also not "won". It is received. Rant Off.

Very nice, Phil. Thanks very much.

It's always nice to see a Huey Cobra on display as an old war relic like the tank shown. The bad thing is that I remember when our combat aviation battalion got the brand new and improved Cobras in 1968. I guess I'm old.

Thanks, again.

I would worry about other things.

All my life, soldiers referred to medals "won". "He won a Silver Star at Normandy...."

All my life, the press and people referred to "The Congressional Medal of Honor".
You are correct- officially, it is simply The Medal of Honor.
BUT, did you know they are inscribed on the back with:
"The Congress to Johnny Soldier" ?????
The medal is always presented in the name of the Congress.
Kind of easy to see how it became "The Congressional".

An NCO in my unit in Germany had "won" one in WW II.

Thank you, Phil for the walk.

I have deep respect for those who fought in WWII, and all wars for freedom. The sacrifice of life in the name of all mankinds freedom.
In my home town, a number of casualties were U.S. Merchant Marine. I was, as a kid raised by stories of some of those men running to Murmansk and surviving the North Sea U-boats, research revealed that for the number of men, Merchant mariners suffered the highest percentage of casualties in the second world war. They, too helped pay the price of freedom. I honor them along with the US Armed Forces.

Thank you Phil, the park is a wonderful recognition for those who served. A mere thank you is not near good enough for all my fellow forum members who fought for this country. We owe you more than could ever be repaid.
