Mine is blackberry, with raspberry a pretty close second. I prefer a Swiss brand called Hero. Some of their stuff now comes in from Germany, but seems of the same high quality. It seems a little tangier and more flavorful than US brands.

Dickinson's is good, though, and Smucker's. Smucker's orange marmalade is a super buy for what I usually pay for it.

Do you have strong peferences among preserves, fruit spreads, etc.?

Is the board really this slow? :D Hey, I didn't want to start another bear thread.

I make my own apricot and plum jams. With all due immodesty I must say they are fan-freakin'-tastic. In the store-bought category I like strawberry and peach preserves and orange and lime marmalades.

I prefer a balance of tart and sweet that tilts slightly toward tartness.

I'm also very fond of buckwheat honey: almost black, with a slight bitter edge I really like. It's hard to find, unfortunately.

cherry preserves and blueberry preserves. I like the ones at trader joes the best. although peach is another fav.

I once won a gift basket full of stuff (wine, wine glasses, a bottle opener, jams and jellies, crackers, etc.) during a wine tasting trip we did around the Finger Lakes of NY.

In the basket was a jar of Peach Champaign Jam.....I mean to tell you this stuff was over-the-top good. It sat on the kitchen counter for a few weeks until I decided to give it a try. I devoured most of the jar on some of the crackers that came with it during that one siting.

I tried to locate some more to buy but was never able. It was one of those tastes you experience and never forget!

Mayhaw jelly made from little red berries picked up from the ground and from the bushes that grow among the cotton mouths in the bottoms of the Ouachita River in South Arkansas and North Lousiana. They say it makes a good wine too.

My all-time favorite is Muscadine ! nothing better than a homemade cathead biscuit loaded with butter covered in muscadine jelly...

blackberry, would be next, followed by my grandmothers homemade fig preserves .

Homemade strawberry made from fresh strawberries my wife gets at a farm down in McDonough, GA and homemade peach from fresh peaches we get down in Woodbury, Ga. My grandson's especially enjoy the strawberry "Grammy Jam" and she usually puts up 2 cases of pint jars for them.

Wild Sandhill Plum jelly--homemade on Texas toast with real butter. Grandma used to make it while I was too busy doing guy stuff, so I never learned her recipe. I'll always regret it.

Like the ice cream thread I choose strawberry. Also love marmalade and most others. The only one I can't stand is raspberry.

Smucker's makes a line of sugar free jams & jellies that are excellent.
Strawberry, Blackberry, & especially the Peach are pretty good on a biscuit!:D

My favorite is my Mom's fig preserves. I lost her 4 years ago, but still have half a dozen pint jars of the preserves. Man, they will give a hot buttered biscuit a college education!
