I have searched online and found a few sites that have them, I am posting here to see what others have found and recommend. I know they are pricy so I want to deal with a place that is trustworthy. Found a place called Riverbank armory but they are very pricy and some not so good reviews by some. I know the real deal will not be cheap but I will pay a bit more than the repos.

I do not want to put a reproduction on the carbine if I can avoid it.

Thanks for any links

JMO Run from River Bank Armory!!!!!!!!
Post a WTB add over on the CMP forum. But do your homework if you are looking for a correct early kaki tipped WWII sling or a late war OD sling. Or if your looking for a OD with D type tips post war sling they are a lot more common. Most of the oilers are mfg. coded so it depends on your carbine mfg. if you want to get a correct one. I've gotten some very correct type repro's that are very hard to tell from E/bay but you must know what to look for. If you need more info you should invest in a good book or two.

By a large margin those who are actively engaged in the M1 carbine collecting market disdain George at Riverbank Armory. I'm not a George apologist and I don't personally know him, but I have dealt with him a number of times and I think a lot of his bad reputation is internet hype. There are a handful of hardcore carbine collectors who trample on Riverbank's reputation every chance they get, when truth be known some of these guys have never even dealt with him, they're just repeating what they've heard. I've not once had a bad experience with Riverbank and these dealings have been mostly when he was the only one who had what I was looking for.

Is Riverbank Armory a high price provider? Yes.

Does he have stuff that is often difficult to find elsewhere? Yes

As an acquirer of 75 year old collectable, often expensive militaria, is it wise to educate yourself before you spend? Yes

Do I believe everything I see on the internet? No

Faulkner,

You have purchased from Riverbank and are happy? They do have what I want but indeed are pricy so that is what I am doing. Getting edumacted:)

I have searched and search and they are the only ones that claim to have the real thing, certainly out of the millions made there has to be some other sites that sell them????

When my buddy and I were into M1 carbines in a big way (we had quite a collection and used to put on displays at OGCA), we dealt with George at River Bank Armory, along with several other dealers, and we never had a problem with him or his merchandise. I don't know how he is now though.

Rule3, I have a humble collection of carbines that I've acquired over the last 20 years or so. Back 20 or even 10 years ago you could pick up WWII era slings, magazine pouches, muzzle covers, cleaning kits, in surplus new condition all day long at most any gun show. In the last decade, though, internet markets like eBay and GunBroker have given easy access to those in the market for such items and since original WWII stuff hasn't been made in nearly 70 years the quality items in good condition are becoming harder to locate.

Interestingly, there are those who collect original M1 carbine slings. I have a good assortment myself, in the picture below all the carbines have USGI slings, though the one on the far right is Viet Nam era.

With that said, there are actually some very good reproduction items on the market these days, including carbine slings. Like you, I'd prefer original accroutments for my USGI arms, but I'll take a nice new repro sling over a ratty 70 year old original. I don't shoot all my carbines, but the ones I do all wear repro slings.

Yes, but if anyone ever posts what I did above at any of the carbine forums they'd be endlessly ridiculed, called names, and likely be banned from the site. All I'm saying is I've purchased from Riverbank 10 or 12 times and have never been "taken", so I'm not necessarily bragging on or even recommending him, but I don't think he's the devil either.

There's quite a few over on Ebay. Look for brass tabs and snap and MRT stamp.

I agree with this, with the exeption of the MRT markings. MRT stands for Mildew Resistant Treatment, which did not come into use until the late 1940's or early 1950's. A great deal of WW2-produced equipment remained in military use until the late 1960's or later, and much of it received the Mildew Resistant Treatment over the years. But, to a discriminating collector of WW2 equipment, the MRT stamp is a negative; they'd rather see originals as issued in WW2 rather than pieces marked up and issued later.

I have purchased repos from WW supply . Good place to order from.

I do not buy anything on flea bay (just me) and I avoid gun broker. I just do not like those places. Guess I am a dinosaur;)
I had a flea bay account and pay pal but closed them both.

Looks like I will get a repo. I pad enough for this carbine and case It is "minty" and approaching 100% (saw that one the other day:rolleyes:) I think I dislike that more than minty.:D

Anyway it is really, really nice:)

At least this e bay listing has pictures and "claims" to be orginal
