Linda Ronstadt has Parkinsons disease
Just saw this headline on Yahoo news. Linda has Parkinsons and can no longer sing. This is just a shame although she is 67 years old and all kind of health issues can happen to us in that age range, or even younger. Her music has brought me great enjoyment since the late 1960's and at least I can listen to her recordings whenever I want to. Though I don't agree with her political views, I still like her as a performer and as a person. Hoping that see sees some kind of remission from her health problems and can get around better.

Damn shame. She has a fine voice, and has been a very versatile performer, making good music in several genres. Sixty-seven sounds pretty young to me these days.

That is a shame. Her music is definitely a part of my childhood and if I were to hear certain songs it would probably bring back memories. I wish her the best. She has a very prolific career.

Raider, You could not have stated your and my thoughts any better. Absolutely love her music and could not disagree more with her politics. I do wish her the very best and hope she can control and improve her health. I most certainly will continue to love and very much enjoy her music and at 64 years of age I have liked her for a long long time. All my best, Joe.

That is a shame. I'm old enough to remember that she started out fronting for the Stone Poneys. I just may have to get out some old vinyl, blow the dust of the Dual, and spend a bit of time doing some listening and remembering.

The pictures above remind me of myself over the years. Not so pretty but I too was fit once. Age comes for us all, if we're lucky. An amazing talent for 40+ years! God be with you, Linda...

Great singer, and she brought us the Eagles! What's not to like. I hate to hear she's ill.

Time has a way of catching us all. Linda's health problems are a shame. The first time I saw her or heard her was on the old Glen Campbell TV show in 1968/9. I was instantly in love. She is a beautiful woman and an even better singer. Like Raider above, I never liked her politics but I liked everything else. I have most of her recordings including an early Stone Ponys. I only saw her in concert one time, 1988 when she was doing the Mexican songs of her father. Great singer, I wish her all the best.

A wonderful talent and beautiful voice have been muted by disease. So why do some of you have to taint your condolence by making a point of distancing yourself from her past political views? It sounds like you want to congratulate yourselves for being "open minded." Very Christian of you.

I couldn't disagree more and Christianity has nothing to do with it. Why spoil our memories of Linda and her music with such a negative attitude? No one mentioned "distancing ourselves from her political past nor has anyone "congratulated themselves". Linda was and is a beautiful person who made so many of us happy just listening to her sing. Please, lets keep this thread on a positive note. Thank you.

Well, sort of
It's a shame to hear this. My Mom (who was much older) developed the illness.

Sad news for a 60's young lady who became one classy woman as her career progressed.
Seems like yesterday when I would turn on the radio and hear her sing her hit "Different Drum". And must mention her song ""Long Long Time"
My best friend also suffers from this horrible disease.

I saw her mentioned on Yahoo! but then just looked at some images and videos. Didn't catch the Parkinson's bad news. How sad. In the late 80's I took my Mexican American wife to see her "Canciones De Mi Padre" concert at the elaborate Orpheum Theater in S.F. It was fantastic with her in top form with what was actually a flamboyant colorful play. She is (I refuse to use past tense) a great singer. I always thought her almost little girl voice when talking is so different than when singing.

Thanks for the link, Wyatt. Like you, I find the past tense difficult to use. Unfortunately she seems to be using it herself.
A real shame. I need to find some more of her work on YouTube.

She has always been one of my favorite female singers. I never was into concerts, dances or that type thing. Now I wish I had gone and seen my favorites over the years, elvis, johnny cash, linda etc when I had the chance to. I shoulda had a life and not been so cheap!

I saw her in concert about 1976. The Eagles were her back-up band. She wore a Cub Scout uniform, dark blue shirt, bright yellow scarf, with the shorts cut as hot pants! She blew the roof offa the dump!
This is truly sad. She has a great talent.

Very sad to hear. I saw her on television doing a number of '40's and '50's "popular" music (The Nelson Riddle Orchestra?). She certainly had a set of pipes, and very attractive to boot.
I have a friend who has Parkinson's, and the tremors literally wear him out at times. He takes a number of drugs for the tremors, and they do help some, but it's really sad to see him deteriorate.
I just wonder if her problems with cocaine addiction had anything to do with the onset of Parkinson's? I saw a some articles a few years back, that seemed to point to a relationship.

Linda Ronsdadt always fit right in with my obsession since Kindergarten with rather petite brunette women ,usually latina, with big brown eyes and round faces. Like this girl below who I married two years after this picture was taken in 1988. See the connection? But I love Linda Ronstadt's voice regardless of all that.

Wyatt, your wife is a beautiful woman and you are a lucky man. Her sixshooters are bigger than her, almost. Can she shoot?

She shoots pretty good when she does shoot which isn't often. These Colts look giant there because she's only 4' 11", but she did real good once not flinching at all shooting a Colt SAA .45 with 8 grains of Unique and a 255 lead bullet.
Here's another great song by that other round faced brown eyed cutie pie, Linda Ronstadt. This is kind of sad, but powerful song of hers I've always liked.

I have enjoyed the U tube videos of some of Linda Ronstadt's songs. I am listening to every wax and cd I have of her tonight. As I mentioned above, I have been in love with her since 1969. I won't argue with the above post reference Hopi Native American background. However, my understanding is that her heritage is German and her people immigrated to Mexico and then on to the US, hence the name Ronstadt. If I am correct, she grew up in the Tuscan, AZ area and her brother was in Law Enforcement in the area and was a Deputy Sheriff and maybe Sheriff of the county wherein is Tuscan. Still a beautiful Lady, and I am still in love. My prayers go to her.

I met her over thirty years ago when I was stationed in California. My supervisors wife and Linda were high school buddies.
She was very nice and down to earth.
Wish her the best.

Maybe Michael J. Fox will clue her in on the benefits of using cannabis?
"“Cannabinoids have been found to have antioxidant properties, unrelated to NMDA receptor antagonism. This new found property makes cannabinoids useful in the treatment and prophylaxis of wide variety of oxidation associated diseases, such as ischemic, age-related, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants, for example in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, such as stroke and trauma, or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and HIV dementia.”
Part of the claims in Patent # 6630507.
The patent was obtained in October of 2003...

Very much enjoyed Linda Ronstadt's singing. Still do. Enjoy her rock songs. And... "What's New?," etc. that she did w/ Nelson Riddle.
Disease is no respecter of persons. Sorry to see her have to deal with this stuff. It's rough. May God bless her and her family.

From 1981 to 1992, her brother Peter Ronstadt served as Tucson's chief of police. His cousin Jim Ronstadt still heads the city's Parks and Recreation Department.
