Aloha,
Now I will have to find the can with the Randall knife.
The things one can learn on a gun forum
Thank You
Yes, it never ceases to amaze me what you can learn here.
I'd ask Hormel if they have any cans left. I haven't seen those in stores for years. You might also ask Randall. They may at least have a photo. The knife had a six-inch blade and the usual leather handle.
Hormel's PR person may also have old product photos. I think it's the only can of Spam that had a knife on the label. "Bo" Randall died in Dec., 1989, and I heard from him about this, so the story probably ran in (as I recall)
Knife World about 1985-87. The cans were on shelves for some years after, but Hormel can probably tell you the dates of production.
I think they still make smoke-flavored Spam, but in a different can.
Mention this new Teriyaki - flavored Spam and tell them if you like it. That might encourage them to do some searching for you. PR people are human, just like everyone else.
Should you obtain a copy of my article, please don't mention my name (in the byline) on the board. I sometimes say things here that may upset certain editors and ad managers.
I'd be interested in what you find if you pursue the project. Frankly, I wish that I'd kept a can, but I figured it'd spoil, in time. I think that Randall had already disposed of all the empty cans, save perhaps a few for his museum. Ask Gary Randall. If any of you ever finds one of those empty ones, it's a good item to enhance a Randall collection.
Let us know how you like the new flavor. I'm quite curious.
