I eat more Spam than I should. I get the 25% less salt variety. Tried turkey Spam. Never again!

I might try that Teriyaki Spam, but not in that can color.

I miss the can of smoke-flavored Spam that had the Randall Model 3 knife by a skillet of Spam and eggs. I wrote an article about it, the Hormel PR person and W.D. Randall, Jr. being of great help. Randall was sent a bunch of empty cans of that Spam flavor. I think he gave most away.

The knife belonged to the asst. photogrpher, who was a knife enthusiast.

Aloha,

Now I will have to find the can with the Randall knife.

The things one can learn on a gun forum

Thank You

Yes, it never ceases to amaze me what you can learn here.

I'd ask Hormel if they have any cans left. I haven't seen those in stores for years. You might also ask Randall. They may at least have a photo. The knife had a six-inch blade and the usual leather handle.

Hormel's PR person may also have old product photos. I think it's the only can of Spam that had a knife on the label. "Bo" Randall died in Dec., 1989, and I heard from him about this, so the story probably ran in (as I recall) Knife World about 1985-87. The cans were on shelves for some years after, but Hormel can probably tell you the dates of production.

I think they still make smoke-flavored Spam, but in a different can.

Mention this new Teriyaki - flavored Spam and tell them if you like it. That might encourage them to do some searching for you. PR people are human, just like everyone else.

Should you obtain a copy of my article, please don't mention my name (in the byline) on the board. I sometimes say things here that may upset certain editors and ad managers.

I'd be interested in what you find if you pursue the project. Frankly, I wish that I'd kept a can, but I figured it'd spoil, in time. I think that Randall had already disposed of all the empty cans, save perhaps a few for his museum. Ask Gary Randall. If any of you ever finds one of those empty ones, it's a good item to enhance a Randall collection.

Let us know how you like the new flavor. I'm quite curious.

Spam is probably one of the great inventions of the modern age. It ranks right up there with smokeless powder. Is there anything more delicious than grilled spam, or spam and scrambled eggs. Well, spam and powdered scrambled eggs are really good. They take me back to breakfasts in the field, in the Old Army. Now that I am older I appreciate the low fat/low salt spam. Does anyone remember green eggs out of a meramac container.

I saw a jalapeno version of Spam sometime back, but I haven't seen it in a while. Cheesy Garlic Bread potato chips? Sounds good...I would definitely pick up a bag if I saw them.

On the bookcase behind my desk, I have a flattened spam can that a bear got out of a backpacker's campsite while I was doing my thesis. Why a backpacker would carry spam into a walk-in campsite I don't know. Maybe a "doper" (it was a few miles into a National Forest).

From the teeth marks, it appeared to be a yearling bear. If the furlough ever ends I'll get a picture (We can't even go to the office to pick up personal items we left behind).

Aloha,

Here in Hawaii, there are Lots of different flavors on the shelf.

Hot n Spicey being one. Word is that it is sold only(?) here, Guam and Florida.

FWIW, the shelf life of Spam is about 9 years, don't ask me how I know.

I just checked my "supplies", nope no can with Randall knife on it. Must have used that in rotation of stock.

Not the end of the world. I don't collect Spam cans, thank goodness.

I remember living in Hawaii. Still remember how eggs were only sold in 2s and 4s but spam was sold by the pallet and rice in 50lbs sacks.

I picked up a can or two of the Jalapeno Spam. It was pretty good. I believe its still on the shelves at the local WalMarts here?
