I have a nice HP All-In-One multifunction printer that does a really nice job only thing is it is breaking me up in ink. HP jumped the price of the standard black cartridge two dollars in the last couple of months. I have therefore decided to get a Brother B&W laser for all my b&w printing. I pay all my bills on-line and that calls for a lot of printing of receipts each month. All the research I have done leads me to the Brother HL 2270DW. I would like the opinions of anyone using this particular printer or any brother like the 5470 etc. All pros and cons appreciated.

Brother printers on the whole have a good reputation. I used to install them in grocery stores where they got fairly heavy usage. The link here says the model you're interested in has some issues with graphics. I'm sure you're aware that any printer you buy including laser will come with a low volume "starter" cartridge. So price a new cartridge before you buy the printer.

I use HP Laser printers. Currently I use an HP2420. Long out of production and I got mine used 3 years ago for $50. HP's cartridges last forever.
Be aware laser "ink" is 3 parts. 1 part ink, 1 part glue, and one part fine iron filings. All parts are used during the printing process. If some ink spills out of the cartridge, wipe it up with a dry cloth. If it gets on your clothes use a magnet first to pull it out of the fabric. Don't use a vacuum on the inside of the printer as the ink is fine enough to go thru the vacuum filter. Once it goes thru the filter it can be sucked up by the computer fan into the computer where the iron part of the ink can play hell.

I've got the 2280 and love it! Went to it because I don't print a lot, and my ink kept drying up.

Why in the world are you printing receipts of your online payments? Your bank surely has a record of these payments (assuming you are using your bank's system v. paying by credit card on each vendor's site).

I pay all my bills online too. Instead of printing the bills and receipts I save them to my hard drive. It really cuts down on printing. I known nothing about the printer you asked about.

A few years ago you could buy cheap printers for less than the ink cost @ staples. If you are not printing a lot of pictures that is the way to go.
