Though I have no pictures, two neighbors and I decided to adopt a stray cat this evening. This cat is about 8 months old and is mostly a smoky grey with white feet, chest and tip of tail. I cant stand to see starving Animals. This cat warned up to me first by bumping its head into my hand as well as rubbing its head and side along where I was sitting at. Its a very playful kitty as well. A distinguishing feature is his "Walrus" mustache which reminds me of:

So SHE is officially named Paula von Hindenburg.

Lookin' forward to the pics.
Our little stray was a bag of bones when he adopted us. He's a lot healthier now, he's had his shots but the doctor tells us he's got ring worms. We've got 3 weeks worth of medication for him and he should poop them right out.

Ill see if one of my neighbors can take pics and post for me aa
s my camera is not working and dont have know how. She really is beauty.

Sam adopted us when he was about 2 years old in 2007. A Coyote had chased him up on our boat during a rainy night. We gave him some food because he looked like he was starving, and he has been with us ever since. He loves to travel...been to Arkansas and back twice. Rides on the center console of our truck. Call him Sam the Travelin Man.

Both of our cats were feral cats. One was fairly young when we adopted her. She was very, very shy around strangers and still is.

The other one was living under our woodshed. She, too, was really shy, but eventually would come out when I would kneel down. She bit me the first time I tried to pet her. Fortunately, I was wearing a thick pair of elk hide gloves. Eventually, she warmed up to me.

Then, the big turning point came a couple months later when she showed up one day limping terribly, after not being seen for several days. I was able to pick her up and found that she had been bitten badly in her right hind leg, perhaps by some tom cat. The leg was puffed up, infected, oozing puss, and sloughing hair. She couldn't put any weight on her foot.

Amazingly, the poor little thing allowed me to pick her up and doctor the leg from my large "horse first aid kit". I flushed the wound out, cleaned it, and dressed it. I did that every day for the next several days. Eventually, the wound healed and, after another month or so, she was able to walk without limping.

Since that time, believe it or not, she follows me around like a dog and doesn't let me out of her sight much during the day. We're good buddies now. She and our other cat both have beds in our heated garage at night, but tend to make the rounds between the barn, the wood shed, the hen house, and the pastures during the daylight hours.

I know a lot of people favor the purebreds, and that's okay. But, somebody needs to watch over these little feral cats, so I guess I've been elected...at least for the two who have adopted me.:)

Well Ringo, I can't say your cat is cute, but we all have different tastes!:D Seriously though, when they seek you out like that, you've got to take them in. I became allergic to cats in my later years so I don't have one now. I miss having a cat quite a bit! There are some feral cats around my house, if one of them were ever to "choose" me, I'd stock up on Clariten & enjoy having a new furry friend.

Bless all of you who 'adopt' the strays and feral cats. Our last 'stray' came to use 'barefoot and pregnant' in 1992. She lived until 2007, when a combination of kitty old age issues necessitated putting her down. It was a sad couple of weeks. Six months later, and a trip to a couple of shelters, we've got a pair of lover boys as companions:

Please,go the extra step and have them neutered. If you have feral cats 'hanging around', check with your local shelter, they may have a TNR (trap, neuter, return/release) program.

Good for you Ringo, and the others here who ha adopted strays! We currently have two that wandered in, one has been with us 8 years and the other has been hanging out here for two. Millicent and Ralf.......

I tried to adopt two others but, the first one which looked like a dark grey version of a Calico cat--was very friendly and always came up to me. well, about 2-3 months ago, I saw a new hired maintenance guy kill it with a shovel and threw its body into a trash dumpster. I just happened to be looking out the window and blinds were parted enough to see everything outside when I saw it happen. That cat was trying to befriend that *** and he killed it. Had I been dressed? I would have gone out and would have more than confronted him on it. I called the complex office and told them exactly what I saw and all I got was: "can you prove it?" I told them to send someone from the office and I would show them the dead cat-but all I got was: "We will investigate the matter" which translates into: "We arent going to do a darn thing as usual" I just hung up--called to make a police report as well as called the SPCA. The SPCA were the only ones to investigate the matter. They came to look for the cat but didnt find him because the dumpster had just been emptied about 15 minutes before they arrived.

I suspect the 2nd cat met the same fate as I had been feeding and watering him but have not seen him for a week now. There are three of us watching over the third cat. I cant have it inside w/ me because of a 1 pet rule--as well as Shasta wouldnt allow it. My neighbor would do the same but has a cat-hating dog. The other neighbor wants it inside as well, but also has a dog, but at least his dog likes cats.

On the maintenance guy, im going to bust him one of these days.

I only wish I were in a house instead of an apartment, I would adopt as many as affordable. Just lost one--possibly two over the past 3 months to about a week. Cat 1, was needlessly killed by a maintenance man w/ a shovel--that had tried to befriend him. That jerk knows im watching him and he will slip up and ill bust him.Though im no longer in LE--ill make a citizens arrest.

I'm on my 3rd rescue cat, first was Niki (La Femme Nikita) had her for 18 years. She outlived 2 of my dogs.

Next was Chloe, my friends in AZ already had 5 they'd found at various locations, abandoned in the desert. She showed up half dead. After Chloe got healed, the other cats rejected her. I brought her back to CO with me. She was so afraid of my dog she lived upstairs in a closet. My GF watched her at her house while I was out of town, and she never returned her, she has a good life now.

Last year when I was down there, they told me a stray had been visiting, Toby. I made friends with Toby and for the second year in a row I brought a cat back from AZ.

Toby's a great cat, he's just not too sure about all that cold white stuff all over the ground.

If he'd do that to a cat he'd do that to a person. The guy is a dirtbag.

I have a 60" commercial zero turn mower and several acres to cut where it's pretty wide open throttle to sh-n-get, and I usually have a tall cold one [or two] when I'm on my NASCAR
yard race.
I came over this small knoll and saw this baby right in front of me, with no intentions of moving, and I almost mowed right over her. [no brakes on this mower other than parking, hydros only] I swear I stopped only 1 foot in front of her.

I knew she was already dead. Still didn't want to cut her up.

Got off the mower to move her, and she opened an eye.
I took this pic with my Blackberry, sent it to my wife in the house, and said "I just mowed over this cat"......she believed me, but came outside to look anyway.
I picked her up to inspect....she had ticks the size of your pinkie finger all over her. I tried to set her on the ground, on her feet, but she fell over.
I sent the wife to the store for some Gerber baby food [chicken] ASAP, but knew this baby was too far gone to save. I got an eye dropper with water to give her a drink. She was so dehydrated, you pinch her skin and it stayed in that shape.
Screw the grass cutting.....we spent the next several hours attempting some comfort. She would lick the baby food, but you had to hold her head up so she could. Then a squirt of water, etc.
She survived the night, and the next day was all about time with her. We had [Advantage] to put on her for the ticks, but were very cautious whether her system could take the dope.

I won't long-wind this any further. The pics can speak.
She is on the couch 5-6 weeks later, bug free and spayed.

She is one of many in our 25yrs of rescue. Cats, horses, wolves, reptiles, birds, even dogs.
Some of our greatest friends are animal rescue folks....Alley cat allies, Best Friends, local humane societies, and always .........[watch the wonderful vids.....Hope For Paws - Animal Rescue

The amount of people that devote time to animal rescue is immense....and they are worldwide. And there still are not enough of us.
You can be a hunter, a meat eater, etc. and still have a heart for the critters.......and you won't automatically turn into a bleeding heart liberal if you do allow your heart to care.

Speaking of just cats [as we battle for JR's life as I type]......we have 17 rescue cats at this moment.

Anyway, the pics are Maya, Maya, Maya.
