I've got a screwy gun to get rid of, one of my 1911s. It has a fail to extract in every single magazine. I haven't found a good gunsmith in my area, and I've got an outstanding higher quality 1911, so I posted my broken gun on armslist. I even gave all the details that I just typed here, telling them the gun malfunctions.

I'm interested in trading for a fun plinking 22 pistol or a concealed carry type gun. The guns offered to me in 5 hours were a Browning buckmark, Sig mosquito with 1,100 rounds, TCP (Taurus version of ruger's Lcp), and some kind of 380 that I've never heard of that this man claims to have had since 1995 and has no issues

I like the buckmark over the mosquito, but I like the 1,100 over the buckmark. I'm going with the buckmark with the mosquito as my backup plan.

I'm calling this a good deal, my malfunctioning headache for a fun gun that I want. What's your best trade?

If you really really want to trade, Buckmark owners rave about 'em. The wife has a Mosquito that's shown none of the issues the haters seem to have other than being picky about ammo. I can't hit a barn with it but the wife shoots it pretty well. Best trade would be the gun you like best.

If I wanted a fun plinker I'd fix the 1911 and buy a Ruger MKII.

My best trade was an electric guitar for a Beretta 303 Special Trap with two barrels. Years later I sold the barrel I didn't use for more than I paid for the guitar.

My friend still has the guitar and I still have the shotgun. Both of us are happy. That's a good trade in my book.

Two come to mind.

One was a 2.5" 686 ND that I just didn't like. Traded it with the place that made specialty guns for Lew Horton. They had an 8 3/8" 629-2 and an original 3" LH barrel - so I took the deal. Ended up with a custom 3" 629-2.

Next best one was a Kimber custom CDP II I couldn't shoot my reloads through - FTRB every 50 ~ 80 rounds. Totally unacceptable. I found a Dan Wesson CBOB and bought it. Sold my Kimber the following day - for the same $$. Flat even trade.

Had a few others, but these stand out in my mind.

my best trade was a sig 239 I had for a smith 657,3 in. lnib AND a smith 422,lnib even up........I asked him if he was sure and he was happy so I danced off.

At a motorcycle rally I won a device that allows you to transfer air from a fully-inflated tire to an under-inflated one. I was able to trade it on the spot for a set of Tow-Downs, which store compactly and can be used either as tie-downs or a tow strap.

I haven't used them yet, but I might. I know I would never have any use for the other thing.

A Brand New in the ORIGINAL box and 1st year production (3 digit serial #) Baby Chief's Special for $143.00 - just because the LGS told me now one wants those old things anymore. :)

BEST DEALS

I've been lucky, but one of my best (for me) & most recent was an unfired 1978 Remington 40xb 223 single shot rifle varmint mdl with an older Leupold fixed 24x scope for 1,000$. The night of the Obama re-election I scored 2 S&W no dashes, a 640 with presentation rosewood grips 95% & a mis marked 681 (Mdl 68-1) in 85% both for 625$.

In 1976 I traded a double bladed Buck folding knife for a .38 spl. S&W model 38 Airweight Bodyguard.

Good Trade.

My Three favorite deals are:

.My Glock-21 NIB, on sale at a mass merchandiser and another big discount for filling out a credit ap. I also had a store credit from another transaction. The retail price was 530 bux and with both discounts and the store credit I walked away with it for 305 bux

.Glock-36 NIB at a gun show for 425 bux. Got a huge discount for paying cash. this gun was selling for 550 to 600 + tax all over the room.

.But my favorite and the biggest savings was my Colt LE6920 AR-15. NIB OTD for 1100 bux. Again at a gun show less than an hour after I saw it at my LGS for 1700 + tax. It pays to be patient and shopshopshop.

Back in 1974 my BIL( a PT deputy sheriff) called me up and asked me if I wanted to buy a .45 1911 for $50. I said probably when I can see it. His reply right now, come down to where I work ( a large government auto maintaince facility) and I will let you in.

Went down and looked at the gun. It was a very good shape commercial 1911 with 2 mags, two name brand holsters and about 70 rounds. I said how much as I thought my BIL misquoted the price, but the man said $50. I said hey I like a bargain but its worth much more than that. He said yes I know but I got to let it go quick. My wife found our 11 year old playing with it. It's got to go.

Gave the man $50 and due to NYS law I let my BIL take the gun to his house on his badge. Got my amendment a week later gave purchase coupon to my BIL to give to his buddy and took the now legal for me gun home. Good thing for me my BIL was not a gun guy the only gun he had was a department issued S&W 10.

My best friend always says, "It's not the deal you get. It's the deal you think you get."

Back in June of 2010 when people were unloading their 2008/9 panic purchases, I was looking for an AR15 carbine. I saw an internet ad on a trusted forum for a new, unfired, in the factory case, Bushmaster M4A3 configuration with a heavy barrel, 12 new 30rd mags, quad rail, bipod, CrimsonTrace light/laser foregrip, Mamba single point sling & mount, 1000rd Am.Eagle xm193 ball ammo, 300rds Hornady TAP FPD 55gr ammo, Maglula loader. Everything brand new, unused. The man wanted $1250. We did a FTF cash sale. I felt a little bit sorry for the seller but it didn't keep me from buying the whole lot. I kept the carbine, Hogue grip, all the mags & ammo. Sold everything else for $350. So I have $900 in what's left. Since I would need ammo and mags anyway, I subtracted their value and by that method of accounting I think I got a new Bushmaster for about $50.

Wish it always worked like that.

Best trade I ever did was clean a rifle for an old gal in my neighborhood, and she gave it to me.

The rifle, that is.

About 10 years ago I was at the range, cleaning some guns after a day of shooting. A guy I worked with swung by, and we got to talking. He said he had a chrome plated 44 mag pistol that he was thinking of selling, as he didn't enjoy shooting it much, and wanted a good shotgun for hunting.

One of the guns I was cleaning was a new ($200.00) Winchester 1300 pump 12 ga. I showed it to him, took a chance, and told him I would do an even swap. He agreed, went home and got his gun, and came back. It was a S&W 29-2, 4 inch nickel, in the wood box, just about mint. Kind of felt bad, but he got what he wanted, and was happy.

This wasn't a great deal, where someone on the other side of the table gets the short end of the stick.
I actually got this deal from a Cabella's in 2004. I was looking through their used stuff and spotted a 3" K frame. The gun turned out to be an unfired 547 with box and all the stuff. Keep in mind, the Blue book hadn't caught up with S&W revolver prices. The guy in the library actually showed me the gun in the book because I had never heard of a 9mm K frame, and the gun was priced near the top of the Blue book value scale. The price tag was marked $350.00. I kindly paid the man, and went home to figure out what I bought. Thus begins the story of how I became a Smith & Wesson Forum member.

I once traded a Webley pellet pistol that had lost most of its power and a ten dollar bill for an unissued SKS with milled and matching parts. Once at Walmart about ten years ago there were Mini-14s being closed out and marked down from $589 to 240 bucks.
