Default Not sure if this helps or hurts our cause ...

Found courtesy of FoxNews.com ...

I know these individuals are cult heroes at present, but I tend to think that with this sponsorship they will be viewed (and potentially exploited) as a bunch of gun shootin' loons from the backwoods. I can't say that the quote, "You know what makes me happy, ladies and gentleman? To blow a mallard drake's head smooth off," is going to endear them to PETA.

I wonder if they will have a D.D, 1911 A-1 .45, and a 30-30 lever action? Id support those products, but dont care for the over abundance of their other goodies.

The whole premise of having a logical, intellectual conversation with 95% of the Anti's is flawed IMO. Trying to be reasonable or decent with them as a group is a waste of time IMO. You may be able to have a decent discussion with an Anti who is a friend or relative that has an interest in keeping your relationship in tact, but placating them as a group or worrying what they might say is a waste of effort from my point of view.

JMO.

The DD Christmas mats I saw a Lowes on the other hand scared me....but that was for a whole other reason entirely

I trust you mean actual duck dung, but I'd go with Canada poop. One of the nastier substances in the natural world (try cleaning it off your parents' grave markers), and thus better suited to the Mossberg.

I saw the piece on the DD guns, but haven't decided what I think about it. It damn sure ought to draw some battle lines. Maybe more than Phil's suspension.

I don't generally buy into "signature" lines of anything but there are plenty who do. NASCAR fans leap to mind. They support those who support their sport. Then there are the brazillions of guys who think that Buzzbait Brand X will make them catch bass like... well... I don't follow pro bass fishing. Whoever the big name is this week. Helicopter Lure. I rest my case.

If they keep the anti's and social progressives cranked up I'm all for it. I love to see the lefties true colors come out when they are shown to be shrill and militant.

I enjoy watching DD on my laptop like I used to enjoy watching "The Beverly Hillbillies" on my RCA. Cute and a counter-point to the "Billy-Has-Two-Moms" programing that the pukes are trying to sell to the American public as the new norm.

While I don't care 2 bits about the DD clan per se, it's more because of 2 reasons: 1. I simply enjoy upland bird hunting far more than duck hunting. As such, I rarely run 3" magnums thru my shotguns. 2. They are a commercialized operation, and there has been nothing real and honest of them since about season 2 of their hunting program, which has now gone to swamp-Billy MTV reality show. I despise all reality shows; they feed a vapid, empty society and really need to follow the BeeGees to a gruesome downward spiral until the entire jonra crashes and burns like disco.

On the other hand............... If Kmart brings them into their store, it would directly combat the filth they insulted everyone with when they dropped carrying guns purely to satisfy Rosie O'pottomus. Forbade my wife from ever stepping foot back in there, and I have never shopped there since. They went BK, and they DESERVED IT.

Maybe the Robinsons' can make the worm turn. If so??? I will support their efforts. I have nothing against them, but I don't care for the style of the show. (Watched one episode. Nearly went back on the bottle after 7 years dry. Pathetic and horrible show. I lost 17 IQ points in 29minutes.)

I also have for years loathed the "UN-reality TV" genre - for a couple of reasons. First, most of them have no connection to reality whatsoever.

Second, the production companies intentionally stage and foment personality conflicts among the people on-camera until they all turn into a version of Peyton Place.

I actually like Duck Dynasty, for a couple of reasons, and will watch an episode every now and then. The first reason is that the people on the show remind me of some of the folks I grew up knowing in SE Missouri.

BUT the thing I like most about the show is how it has backfired on the network elitists at A&E. They initially intended the show to make fun of "gun-toting, redneck" types. Where it backfired is that such a large number of real Americans actually identify with the Robertsons - as evidenced by the huge outpouring of support for the show when their family patriarch Phil, dared to express a politically incorrect religious view.

I thought that was AWESOME!

While I don't buy TV inspired stuff, I like the Robertsons. Sure you could have the same show, made on a fake location, shot on stagesets, with "real" actors. Why? I'd rather see Phil, Jase, Willie, & Si, than trash like Alec, Charlie, and a band of Hollywood morons. Outside of Hollywood and a dab of NYC, I think PETA is generally recognized as the radical imbeciles that they are.

Blowing a Mallards head off makes him "happy"? That sounds like a rather callous statement that would cause offense to many people. Is it the killing he enjoys most, or the sport, the tradition of hunting passed down from generation to generation? These folks need to take a lesson from the Native Americans and show respect for all of nature, not a "sport" where we kill something to "make us happy". In my younger days I spent many seasons in deer camp, watching my elders as they hunted. I can't imagine any one of them making such an immature statement. And millions of non-hunters are watching this and thinking "are these typical hunters?". Another step backwards. In many respects these folks are still kids and have failed to grow up.

Having a rational discussion with an anti is about like playing chess with a pigeon..... they knock over all the pieces, poop on the board and then strut around like they won the game.

IMHO, the celebrity endorsement of firearms is a time honored tradition. IF DD's named endorsement line sells a few more Mossbergs then good for them, good for the sport and good for DD. I also detest ALL reality shows and would rather watch paint dry. I too think that the liberal left leaning bigwigs of A & E completely misjudged the direction of and the impact of a reality show based on a family of rednecks making a living from duck calls and camouflage clothing. I think that in a way the more the success of that show, the more some jaws are going to be clinched at A & E. :-)

IMHO, this whole brouhaha is "much ado about nothing". ..... Big Cholla

Down here in Mexico, "PETA" means "Permiso Extraordinario para Transportacion de Armas". It's the permit the Army gives you -- which must be renewed annually at exactly this time -- to transport your registered firearms to and from an approved range. You are only allowed to have 10 firearms on your PETA and -- according to the Mexican Army -- you are only allowed to have one PETA.

You are allowed to have a PETA for "to-and-from-the-range", or "for hunting in one state or several", or a "National Competition PETA" that allows you to travel between States (always with the gun cased, unloaded, and not right beside you within reach although since the backseat would probably pass as far enough out-of-reach, there's wiggle-room on that point).

In reality, the Mexican Firearms Law does not stipulate a limit on the number of firearms you can have, and no where does it stipulate that you can only have one PETA. However, the Mexican Army is a law unto itself. There are many simple ways to circumvent the "one PETA" rule, and most of the dedicated shooters I know have more than 10 guns.

But down here, when someone is whining that their PETA has expired and they still don't have their new one in hand (my case at the moment), they are not worrying about little furry creatures. Most of them are waiting, in fact, for their hunting PETA to come out quickly so they can go hunting some of them legally.

I just checked my computer to see if I had a copy of one scanned but I don't. They're an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper with the Mexican Government Seal in one corner, a style of greenish bond paper that would be difficult to falsify, and printed on a computer printer listing up to 10 firearms and the amount of ammunition you are allowed to transport -- usually 200 rounds -- for each caliber listed. Yes, you need a permit here for both firearms and ammunition.

But that's a PETA in this part of the World.

Since we're in the "does this hurt or help us" department, I recall one scene where they are walking through a swamp and Willie comes across a Water Moccasin. He pulls out his semi auto pistol (Glock, M&P?) and empties the clip into it from 15 feet. He then picks up the snakes remains for all to see. If I had done something like this when I was a 12 year old my father would have knocked me on my butt. Talk about giving ammo (pun intended) to those who oppose guns, does anyone really believe idiots like this are not hurting our cause?

It is. In the comical ways of shooters everywhere, amongst ourselves the wording is changed to "Permiso Ultraordinario para Transportacion de Armas".

So instead of PETA, it's....well, you can figure it out. Sort of our take on the Governing Body and it's emissaries.

This snake was NOT a threat to him or anyone else. All he had to do was leave it alone and it would have done the same for him. It appears he was killing it just for the sake of killing something. And the comments afterwards from his buddies? What an example for youngsters regarding respect for nature and the proper use of guns.

I see this as him merely doing a poor job of expressing himself. Think he just shoots 'em and leaves them lay? Heck NO! Like all GOOD hunters, they are eating what they kill, so the happiness he's talking about isn't about the killing per se - though that is the impression the editors and producers wish to convey. As you have implied the happiness he's referring to is in the freedom to hunt, the challenge of the hunt, the exercise of the skills required to hunt successfully, and the satisfaction of bringing home game for the table. The folks at A&E just don't present it that way - they prefer to give it their own slanted view and present him as an ignorant hick who just likes killing things. I'm surprised that anyone here would buy into their spin.

Your dad would deck you for killing a poisonous snake? Really? The worst mine would have done is criticize me for taking too many shots to get the job done!

Funny, but that's the same name the fellas used for the performers at the Casa Rojas in Ojinaga! What a coincidence!

This was a perfect example of the proper use of guns. The only good poisonous snake is a dead one, especially water moccasins.

Yup. One of the few wild critters aggressive enough that they often won't run - even if they have the chance. If you're in their territory they will come AFTER you...
