Contest: Can You Tell What Cartridges These Are?
On the far right is a nickel and a .44 Special cartridge for size reference. Can you guess what caliber the other cartridges are? No prize except bragging rights.

I would like to try. Starting on the left; 38 S&W, 38 Short Colt, 38 Long Colt, 45 auto, 45 Scofield or 45 US and 30-30. All above a spill of laundry soap. Ivan

Yeah, but what brand laundry detergent?
I'm not sure if the last one is a 30-30, or 303 Savage.

Ivan, I agree with all but the 45 auto. I think that may be a 44 Russian. Reason is because I just fired six rounds of Russian today through an old 1926 third model.

You're half right. And that white mark is a spur on a Mexican poncho.

That one with the nice black bullet?
It's not 45 Auto, as Ivan suggested. No extractor groove. And looking at the 44 Special, it don't look big enough around to be a 44 Russian.
I'm thinking 41 Short Colt.

Third from the left looks like a 41 Colt to me.

About half right, just my luck! I see at least one of my errors. But I withhold any more tries until some of the lurkers venture from the wood work with full guess, or educated revelations. Good Luck Ladies and Gentlemen. Ivan

Nope. If people keep guessing I give clues when they almost got it.
Keep trying, Ivan.

Dangit Ivan, I'm still trying to lurk.
It doesn't matter, I've got not guesses anyway.

Do you have a photo showing the edge of the nickle taken from the direction of the spur?

I checked my cartridge collection a little bit ago. I don't own a 32 Win Special round, and I don't believe I have ever fired one of the rifles. I was hoping more people would play. I'm still photo posting impaired, when I am delivered of that affliction, we will have some more fun! Thanks, Ivan
