I was over on another form the other day and read a post about an incident I believe in Missouri somewhere at a gun range about a woman double tapping a 500 and shooting herself in the head .anybody here know anymore about this The woman apparently died .I have googled it and haven't found a whole lot about it .it worries me though because I have let people shoot my 500 ,they were always experienced shooters but hearing this really worries me .I would be devastated if I let someone shoot a gun and this happened.

Sounds like one of those "internet facts" to me. I don't see how it would be possible.....

thats my guess at first blush.
S&W did their homework on the Xframes The muzzle brakes are remarkably effective. So much so, that they might render full auto controllable.
there just isn't enough muzzle rise to lead to such an incident

This has been documented as a results of the recoil for many years and has caused some amount of bloodletting---most from split eyebrows after the second recoil.
Blessings

Put in one bullet. Larry

I lost interest in the huge/powerful revolver cartridges a few years back after the internetz pics of the destroyed thumb were all over the shooting-netz....even before then I had long realized the .44 mag was my limit on handgun recoil...

I don't like food that is painful (like jalapenos) and I don't like to shoot guns that are painful. In fact, I don't like pain.

Call me a wimp, call me a girl, call me a sissy...whatever. I tend to think I'm simply sane. Pain is the body's way of telling you "this is not good for you." If it was good, wouldn't it feel good?

Well, I know that some things that feel/taste good (like chicken fried steak) may not be "good" for you, in your doctor's opinion. But then, what does he know...he wants me to eat more salad.

So, OK, I eat more salad:

I always thought double tap meant to shoot someone twice. I don't know what you mean by that term.

Two shots in rapid succession. In this case I believe the term is being used to describe a situation where the second shot was accidental - caused by loosing control of the firearm due to recoil.

Looks to have happened last November 2013. She was visiting from South American 25 years old. Apparent accidental shooting at a northeast Missouri gun range. Doesn't say if some idiot thought it was funny to give her a overly powerful firearm, or if it was her first time shooting but sounds like so as she was visiting.

according to "WGEM-TV that the woman was shooting a .500-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun when the strength of the gun’s recoil caused her to lose control." you know they had to get that in.

Somewhat related to this...but not accusing anyone of anything...

I've Always been amazed at the idiots who think it's funny to allow some inexperience person shoot a firearm that ends up hurting them. If it's a boyfriend letting the girlfriend shoot a 12 ga shotgun or whatever....HOW is hurting someone else amusing or funny to some people?

I can see a smaller person having such trouble due to the strength difference, and especially so if it is an inexperienced shooter. My ex-wife tried my .41 with the JSP loads in it, and I had to stand behind her and brace her shoulders (and after the first shot I crouched due to the muzzle blast in the booth). She's pretty small, maybe 5'1 on a good day.

The first two videos posted above make it look to me like shooting one's self by mistake in the head due to being overpowered by recoil is possible.

People who set folks up for that are despicable.

It is absolutely possible and it has happened. People who knowingly give unqualified individuals powerful firearms to handle are reckless and at least morally, if not legally, culpable IMO.

That's one of my pet peeves also. Yet, even here, those stories get a lot of verbal "high fives". Clowns like that need to grow up.
