Let's Talk Pizza

Right now as far as chains go it's Papa Johns for me. As far as individual joints-we unfortunately don't have any down here :(
But growing up in New Orleans there was a place called Cicero's on Maple street that made a mean WOP salad and a great pizza.

Been years since I've been here (wife lived in the area when we dated so we went a fair bit) - but it's still considered one of the best pizza joints in the Pittsburgh area. Welcome to Mineo's Pizza House!

There really nothing near us now that jumps out at me as far as being really good pizza. Probably Fox's Pizza Den down the street from my house is the best of what we have available.

Another Pizza Hut fan here!

Our local choice is ONLY Pizza Hut.
We've been having Pizza Night every 2 weeks for years....
Now they've *improved* the hand tossed pizza dough so that it's the consistency of cardboard.
So much for Pizza Night :(

I like Papa John's pretty much. I used to love Domino's till their prices got so high. Papa Johns has some pretty good deals fairly often, & I really like the Garden Fresh. My all time favorite was a place in Lubbock TX called Pizza Express. I ordered from them so much they knew who I was! I always ordered the same way(twice the sauce & twice the jalapenos!)on a supreme. It got to where all I had to do was call them up, give them my name & tell them where I was, since they delivered. Excellent Pizza! Man, I'm getting hungry!

Had to add, & I don't know how I forgot it, but here in OKC Hideaway Pizza is my favorite. They have a barbecue chicken pizza that is out of this world! They're kinda pricey, though.

When we were in SoCal, it was Fio Rita's in Lakewood and Los Alamitos. Family run. Manager died and they closed the Lakewood store. Still eat at the Los Alamitos store when we're down visiting family.

Up here, we were stuck with chains when we got here. Now we have Saddlerock Brewery, which is good.

I haven't tried the "new" Dominos - Papa Johns is okay - my son will only eat Pizza Hut if given a choice - the new Digornio recipe is not quite as good as the old recipe but then we are not big on spicy foods.
The single best and single worst pizzas I can recall ever having were both at the same place at a pizza shop in Western Massachusetts back in college - can't recall the name of the place - brick oven in a mall kinda place.
The wife and I go to Crostata's for lunch about once a month and get their pizza - brick oven.
There are some good brick oven style places in Morgantown VA and Raleigh NC.
Pizza Pan and Little Caesars are okay if you want fast and cheap.
Had a Greek Pizza in college once - that left a stain on the carpet under the box it was in while we were eating it.
If your are going to do the Digornio style frozen pizza get a Pizzaz Pizza oven - those things are amazing - 18 minutes from frozen to ready every time - just have to let it cool for a minute or two. Cooking them in the oven takes about 40 minutes to get it right including pre-heat - high temp cook - low temp finish - and cooling time.

I live in a small town here in the Smokys and we have a local pizza place that really puts out some great pizza. As far as delivery we like Dominos over Pizza Hut.

Although the Big Franchises are not too bad, Pizza Hut, Dominoes, Papa John's, etc., nothing beats the take and bake from Papa Murphy's. Great pizza at a great price.

My favorite chain store pizza is Dominos. My local one has been around a long time. We once heard it was the busiest one. It is always consistant, and I really like the thin crust. But any of three local Italian restaurants, have really good thin pizza, particularly Joe's. I'm sort of a traditionalist about pizza. If it ain't got tomato sauce, it ain't pizza. I love fried chicken, but not chicken pizza. No fruit either, unless it's for dessert. I don't get frozen box stuff, I'll make my own.

I was in Cherokee about 3 or 4 years ago. Besides the casino, the best food we could find was a Pizza Hut. That one was horrible even by Pizza Hut standards.:( I think they use ketchup.
The hotel we stayed at(Marriot or Hilton, forgot which) was even worse, their buffet rivaled dog food.
I lost 5 lbs that week. :eek::D

Johnny's

It's regional

Also Publix brands

Born and raised in Chicago. Chicago pizza sucks. But the Chicago Dog and its Italian beef make up for that travesty.

I can be in Chicago in two hours from my house.... And Giordano's is an amazing pizza for sure!!

Our best local pizza is Pizzeria Uno, which is the original Chicago pizza company if you believe their advertising. I know I can only eat one slice and I'm stuffed!!

I don't care much for Pizza Hut, Papa John's, Dominoes, or any chain really except Uno's.

But I do love pizza! A good brew-pub pizza made fresh is really good, or I'll buy the pre-made crust and make a BBQ chicken pizza on the grill.

I also like (please don't flame me for this one :p ) really REALLY cheap pizza. Like the 5 for $10 pizzas. I add a little extra cheese and some onions and I think they are great! :D
