North Charleston, SC is finally getting a Bass Pro Shop! I understand that they are committed to move in, but local retailers and even some politicians are dismayed because of the tax breaks BPS is getting. They feel that they are paying to bring their competition in. I can see their point, but it's about time we got some sports chain in here that caters to some gun/shooting needs.

I wonder if they will bring any powder with them??

If it's like the Bass Pro here, they won't have much of a reloading selection and the highest price in town on powder. Whereas Cabelas and Sportsman's Warehouse cater to gun/hunting folks, the Bass Pro here seems to be geared more toward fishing and, in particular, clothing. I rarely go in anymore. Oh, and the guys behind the gun counter generally know which end the bullets come out of.

BPS opened a "outpost" in Tallahassee a few months ago, the first six hours of the grand opening they sold 550,000 rounds of .22LR ammo.
Now I can hardly find any .22 ammo when I go there.

I'm not too impressed with the ones I've been in either. Prices are high and not much of a gun selection I'm interested in anyhow. I haven't bought much there as I've usually found better prices elsewhere. Long waits too at the gun counter and I've been in there during normal working hours when traffic should be low. Even then I found counter staff didn't know much either.
They do have a pretty big boating section but again I found the prices high. I'm not too much into fishing gear but think you could find what you need at a price there. I do like looking at their bass boats though.

Ah Bass Pro, a clothing store that has a small fishing lure section. I've got one 9 miles away and haven't been in there in 3 years, even then I was there for about the 10 min it took me to get to the gun counter and back out. (I walk slow trailing an O2 tank.)

The ones in and around the Houston area feel and look more like a "Sports Botique" than they do a sporting goods store. Fancy high priced sports wear, big fish tanks with live bass and crappie and catfish in them, I think it was the one in the Dallas area that actually has a restaurant inside? etc. They are really pretty inside but just don't "fit my pistol" most of the time.

Here at the other end of South Carolina Cabela's is having a grand opening next month, first in the State. I've never been inside either one but understand Cabela's caters a little more to the shooter and reloader than other chains.

We have a Gander Mountain opening here, just about a mile from my LGS. I guess they're pretty nervous. At least the guys at the LGS tend to know what they're talking about.

I was afraid of that......

I was afraid of that. This is a big fishing area, fresh and salt, and everything in town caters to that business. I suppose if a Cabelas moved in they would do the same thing.:(

I'm not very impressed with the one in OKC. Like stated above, it seems to be more of a clothing store with a fishing department.

I do better if BPS stuff isn't on sale or discontinued at Wal-Mart, local mom and pop bait shops.

But one of my hottest places to deal were the people I deal with all fish too
Is; Brannans.com there in Texas and they know there baits.

Here's some other places to shop for deep discounts on everything from reels, to rods to tackle.

The mother ship, so to speak is the home store in Springfield Mo. A neat experience to say the least. A lot to see and kids seem to love it...No Bass Pro is really a good place for hand gun buying unless the price is not important..Now and the n they get one of the hard to get items and generally they have ammo....Lets face it unless you are in the store when 22lr comes in it will be gone with in 2 hours....Bass Pro owns and operates Big Cedar Lodge south of Springfield very neat place especially to take kids. A little pricy but very nice, good restaurant and very clean rooms and cabins......Heck anymore what isn't pricy??? In that area you have Big Cedar Lodge, Branson, and three clear water lakes. It is worth at least one trip in your life time....A little farther south you also have Eureka Springs Ark. a historic old town refurbished mostly in turn of the century style. Bring walking shoes the whole town is on hills. Also Eureka Springs is the home of the "Passion Play" that is something to see at least once....Note: Bring money...However the folks will treat you good and though they want your money they will be very pleasant, in fact downright friendly while appreciating your business....Come to the Ozarks...Drive safe and have a good time and leave some money. Not all but some...things are tough.....One thing for sure you will feel appreciated....

The Bass Pro near me is a nicer store than the new Cabelas IMHO.Havent been there in a few years but the gun room had some very nice shotguns and a few $30k rifles.
I do get a kick out of the accents I hear,though ;-)

I was in our local Bass Pro yesterday. They have what I consider a good, although high priced selection of firearms. I am interested in a S&W 642 but wanted to compair triggers with the LCR, no go, wouldn't take the trigger guard off.

I bought some clothes but they'll never sell me a firearm. I ordered a 642 Talo from my LGS today and that's what I should have done in the first place. I actually was feeling like I had cheated a friend by even thinking about buying a gun from someone other than my LGS.

Bass Pro is one of my "must do" things every time we go to Vegas. I've always though they have a pretty good selection of stuff.

But here in the NW, Portland is getting a Cabelas! And even better, is that it'll only be a couple miles from the mall my wife likes to shop at. So when we make the 90 minute drive from the coast for her to go shopping, I'll tell her to take as long as she wants!

We have a Bass Pro Shop here in East Peoria Illinois, and I Love it!

I used to live in Peoria. The EP BP is a really good store. Its huge with a good selection and visually its really cool. Plus a restaurant and a bowing alley.
