I wanted something a bit more secure when I have to leave my gun in the car. I just purchased The Club Personal Vault and so far I am very pleased with it. It seems to be very well made of strong aluminum and steel. It has a 40" braided steel cable that is polyurethane coated. This attaches to the seat brackets and stores under the seat. I had to put mine under the driver's seat from the back. It would not easily fit from the front. This depends on how your seat controls are situated.

The measurements are:
Inner Dimensions 7 3/4 x 5 3/8 x 2 1/2
Outer Dimensions 8 1/4 x 6 x 2 3/4

While this seems small, I was able to fit my Shield, wallet, money clip, and my wife's billfold in. The inside is a felt like material and has a small rubber mat in the bottom that can be removed.

Don't get me wrong....This will not stop a profession thief but it is far better than a glove box. I think it will at least deter the quick break and grab thief. :)

I have one, and I like it pretty well. I'd rather have a console safe, one that fits inside the console of my Expedition, but it's a LOT more expensive and Mrs. GKC vetoed it since she wouldn't have room for all her cr...er, valuable stuff she finds it necessary to carry. The advantage to this safe, over a console safe, is that when traveling, you can take it into the hotel room with you and use it for secure storage there as well.

I can fit my SD40VE in it, which has a 4" barrel. I can't fit a full size 1911 in it.

I was concerned about the strength of the tether cable, so I drilled out a hole for a padlock and now I use a length of heavy chain. The chain is encased in a vinyl tube, so it's non-marring. I use a second padlock on the end of the chain to lock it into one of the floor anchors for the captain's chair in the middle row of seats. The safe itself is out of sight under the seat.

After I made the modifications to the safe, I decided to test the tether cable. I couldn't cut it with pliers, with a small pair of dikes, or a hack saw (at least not easily...the hack saw would have worked if I had persisted, but it wasn't quick.) I also have a large set of pruning shears with 3' handles, and they wouldn't cut it either. I'm sure you could probably cut it with a set of bolt cutters, but most smash and grab junkies aren't carrying many if any tools. As with anything else, a pro could defeat this safe, but I feel it's reasonably safe. In fact, I wish now I'd just left the tether in place...but, since I can't put a FS 1911 in the box, when I have one in the car that I need to lock up, I put one padlock/chain through the trigger guard, and the other is still secured to the seat bracket, so it's as secure as I can make it, and it's still out of sight. I seldom carry my 1911s in the car, anyway.

I'm going to get a larger safe when I can find one I like, but for now, this one works for me.

For us revolving folks- do you think my 642 will fit in it?

Yes, I do. I've put a Ruger SP-101 with a 3" barrel in it, and it fit fine. I think the 3" SP-101 is a bit larger than a 642.
