Does your woman shine shoes?
Not your shoes, any shoes? I have yet to see my wife, my daughters, my ex wife, or previous girlfriends shine a shoe. Do they? Sometimes my wife will ask me to shine a pair of her boots; cowboy, winter, fashion, but she never touches a can of polish herself. I don't think they would ever see a buffing rag if it wasn't for me. Do we shine their shoes for them? What about single women? Who shines their shoes. I never see any adds anywhere for shoeshine kits for women. I know it is a unisex item but you would think as much attention as some women pay to detail about their outfits there would be a market for some girly shoe brushes. I know there are more synthetic materials in women's shoes than men's but still there has to be a pair of leather pumps out there somewhere that need a touch up from time to time. Do you suppose women's shoes are becoming a throw away commodity? Is it the female mindset? My wife once went in for an oil change and came home with a new car.

They don't have to shine them, they have 400 pair in the closet, I also went in for an oil change and came out with a new truck, what wrong with that and my old one was only a year old.

I doubt there are many men who shine shoes anymore. Just another fading aspect of the culture we live in. I don't think people 'dress up' as much as they used to years ago. I only have 2 pairs of dress shoes and will shine them about once a year.
When I was a kid, my uncle ran a barber shop, my dad and another uncle worked there. I can remember going there on Saturdays to shine customers' shoes to make some spending money. You won't find that in many barber shops these days.... except maybe the exclusive ones like our congressmen have in the Capitol building in DC.

To my knowledge my wife has never polished a shoe. I buy her shoes and she has lots of them. What drives me crazy is she will ware only two or three pairs and will ware them into the ground. Doesn't' care if the heel tips ware completely off or they are tore up, she keeps warring and leaving all those other nice shoes in all their racks and in storage.

That's because NONE of the other 86 pair fit.
They pinch the toes, the heel rubs, they're too tight, they're too loose, the arch hurts, something.
But she had to have them because they matched something she has or wants to have.
If you should, God forbid, say anything, a million pound $###rain will come down on your head because she's really PO'd at herself for not being able to wear them.
So, we grin, and bear it.

I shine my own boots. Nobody else can do it right. Been trying to make a wooden form to hold the boot flat at about waist high. Then I could get a good spit shine on them. Really hard to do now days with them on my feet. Can't breath!

Surprisingly, my wife does shine shoes (really, boots). But they're her riding boots she uses for dressage, along with the saddle and bridle. Learned it when she was in OCS and can still do a really decent spit shine.

Sir, Mrs. Ron H. claims to know how to shine shoes, but I've never seen her actually do it. [shrug]
Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

My brother was in the Navy for 30 years, when he wasn't drunk, he was shining his shoes.

I am not a fan of PC, but there may be a practical reason why he said, "Your woman." It's not neccesariy sexist.
Today, many have a woman who isn't their spouse. Or, he may include all tne women who one dates, or maybe even sisters and such.
But it's true that I've never seen a woman shine shoes. Or use any leather dressing on boots. You're lucky if you have one who gets her watch battery changed in time, or checks the oil in her car.
Most of us have heard Lincoln's quip when discovered shining his boots in the White House:
"Mr. Lincoln, gentlemen don't black their own boots!"
"Really? Whose boots do they black?"
I can tell you, I wish that I could still find good bootblacks in barber shops. Times have changed so much in my relatively short life...
Come to think of it, I believe that my now ex-wife did occasionally ask me to shine her boots or shoes. If the color of polish needed wasn't too exotic, I did it. Had to be Black, Brown, Cordovan, or a sort of grayish green that I bought to use on German knife sheaths meant for sale within Germany, where hunters wear green. Mercedes used to sell cars in a similar color, but I haven't seen one lately. Leica and Zeiss and I guess Swarovski and Steiner still offer binoculars that color, or close.

Shining
Like everything else my dad taught me from cutting a board with a crosscut saw to setting the table, there was a right way to shine shoes, from applying the polish to the brisk brushing to the final polish with the rag. All the essentials were kept in a cloth bag in a small wooden box in the hall closet. To go out without shined shoes, your hair brushed and a clean handkerchief in your pocket was unthinkable. When I travelled for an insurance company I didn't run up my expense account at fancy restaurants but when I had time between flights I always treated myself (and my Tony Lamas) to a professional shine.

Many years ago I was introducing my "cohabiter" to some people. I got stuck on what to call her.
She wasn't my wife. We weren't engaged, so she wasn't my fiancee. Since we were both over 30, "girlfriend" sounded stupid to my ear. And I kinda hesitated.
"This is my --", and a friend of mine said, "This is your lady". Boom. Perfect. "This is my lady, Sara".
And there's a HUGE difference between, "This is my lady", and "This is my woman".

If I had referred to any wife or girlfriend in my life as "my woman" I would have had to see a proctologist to get my shoes back.

I think most women's shoes are not made of materials that need shining. Even if they did you can be sure your lady would have stopped wearing them before they needed it on the basis that the shoes were now out of fashion. Can you tell that most of the women I am related to have the Imelda Marcos gene?

Yeah, and I get tired of hearing women referred to today as "females." "Partner" or "roomie" may work. "Significant other" seems too PC and stilted. Gotta be careful where you call one, "Playmate."

I used to work with an Marine, and he called all women "females". Usually prefaced by "this". "I met this female at the bar last night."
I asked him one time - WHY? He said it was Marine Corps regs. Calling her a girl or a lady or a woman or any other term for a person of the "non-male gender" was considered "sexist". If you called her "a female", you could not get in trouble.
Well, maybe. You'd sure sound like a dork, though.
Funny. Never heard him call a man "a male". Said "man" or "guy".

Would it be okay if "your woman" called you "her man"? I don't believe anyone would think twice about it. My wife, does shine her shoes when needed. I think shoe shining, like knife sharpening is quickly becoming a lost art.

Ok, fellows. See if you get this. My dad was a boot black. He taught me before I donned the uniform.
Now, for the other stuff. I think, for some, not all, guys call things as they act. I think if a female can carry hdrself in such a way to create an enviroment outside as beautiful as she is on the inside. I dont think she would mind being referred to as Lady. Again some, not all.

Most Marines I know don't need anyone else to shine their shoes, and are too cheap to pay for it.

Some terms just don't swap back and forth.
The Commanding Officer of any company is "The Old Man". Usually said with affection and/or respect. And frequently the CO is proud of being The Old Man.
If the CO was a woman, you reckon she would be proud, or even accepting, of being referred to as "The Old Woman"?
The President's wife is The First Lady. If/when we ever get a woman President, they will have to come up with a new term, as "The First Gentleman" sounds really, really stupid.

How about the "little woman"? I had a neighbor mention to me once when I was checking blue bird houses "Yeah, the wife likes that too." Another co-worker, retired like me, refers to his live in girlfriend as "my woman".
At any rate, my wife has never touched a shoe in 48 years of marriage. I'm the shoe shine boy in the family. I have a nice box with all kinds of polishes, boot polishes, brushes, rags, etc. sitting out in the laundry room to do that. Even have a couple of hoof brushes to apply the boot paste, black or brown.

I think, outside this forum of course, you are hard pressed to find even MEN who polish their shoes anymore...I personally love to! Once every 3 months they good a good deep shining, and then monthly a quick shine.
