What's in the tank? Could be some real good old Kentucky whiskey.
Or not!

That crossed our minds too. We also found a 8 lug spare tire and rim someone lost right on the dirt road. We had just rode 50 miles and came out on highway 9 near the east boundary to Zion NP. We had to turn around and go back on the same trail we had just been on less than a half hour earlier and it was right in the middle of the rough dirt road. Also found the bracket and shredded cable from where it fell probley off a cattle truck as it was a active weekend with ranchers hauling livestock up in the high country.

Not long before he passed, I saw Dennis Weaver and his wife down at Whole Foods.
They were both vegetarians and they were intently reading labels.
They didn't look like they wanted to say hello or or talk, so I didn't say anything to them.

Tha's a 50/52 L series International. The K series went until 1949. All truck brands of that time used the same cabs for their pickups to their heavy 2 ton models. The hoods were also the same size, but the fenders and grill were larger.

I always find this kind of random stuff fascinating. Something that doesn't belong. How did if get there? Why? Who?
Where I go camping in Pa Pocono mountains I hike up a large steep, rocky mountain. 1/2 way up the mountain facing down an embankment is what looks to be the remains of a 60s car. Possibly a Corvair. I have no proof of this but next time I'll take some pics. I have no clue as to how it got there since you cant drive it up. It too is riddled with bullet holes but this truck is in overall better distinguishable condition

This one is still my all time favorite truck. We live a mile away from a new loves truck stop and there is always odd people there. This guy seems to sleep there once a week or so. There usualy is around 40 trucks that park there every night.
I know another trail/road along a creek that has about 4 old cars that flooded years ago in one bend.

This reminds me of a forested area in either NH or Maine that I visited years ago. In the middle of the woods was the wreckage of a B-52 that crashed after the war. Lots of random pieces, and a HUGE wheel/tire is I recall correctly all scattered about. It was as eerie as it was sobering to see.

I read a thread about that crash on another forum. The story is also documented on Wikipedia.
Sadly some people just have to take souvenirs with them and can't just respect the dead.

Actually it is R series, most likely an R190. You are correct about the commonality of the cabs. My 77 IH Loadstar grain truck has a cab design from the late fifties.

Looks like a good candidate for restoration, without the tank.
Those old IH trucks were extremely tough and reliable.

Feral, When I was a kid Utah placed crushed cars in the river banks for stream erosion protection. They pulled some out but not all. Montana and Idaho did the same in the 50's and 60's.

That's what happens when you take an airplane and completely change the mission.
I saw the B-52 pictured below sticking out of a hanger at Blythville, AR.
After they slowed it down and flew it a little higher, the B-52 could safely penetrate at low altitude.

A friend of mine is a professional trapper, so he's a bit farther into the sticks than most. A few years ago he came home with an ejector seat
Oh yeah - I believe that's a '53 IH R-190

I would disagree in that things like that should be left where they landed. In some cases it's done as a memorial to pilots and flight crew that lost their lives in the crash.

Something tells me that if he could have determined direction of flight, he could have found the plane too.

International
I too believe it is a R series, depending on the underpinnings it could be a 190 or a 220, be interesting to see close-ups. I worked for wrecker services that had 190s and 220s the 6 cylinder Red Diamond engines would get about 4 mpg the 549 V8s would get 2mpg on a good day, the joke was when filling them up if you didn't shut the engine off the gas pump wouldn't keep up.

I wondered about the three identical old cheap houses. They are maybe 10 miles up the dirt road from the nearest other houses. Almost looked like some sort of project for workers at a mine or whatever but also in that part of the country I wouldn't be surprised were it a polygamist with three familys years ago, in fact that may be my best guess.

All stories and mysteries have an answer.....Many times the time lapse has made the answer a mystery....I was in a plane crash in the Dan Ryan Woods in Chicago in 1986....The tail of the plane was left in a large old growth tree....The tail could not be removed with out cutting the old growth tree down....It was a protected natural growth area, as far as I know that part of the plane is still in that tree. I was in that tree also, thankfully I could be removed..Any one under 40 that would see that tree now would wonder how in the heck could a tail of an airplane end up in a 50 foot tree surrounded by other trees....In about 20 years from now nobody will have an answer to "How did that get there"??? Mystery in the making........
