Good grief, today is the anniversary of Elvis's death in 1977. Its hard to believe he has been gone so long already. Also, Farrah Fawcetts recent 5 year anniversary recently passed. Dang I miss those two.

I prefer to remember him this way:

From the best movie He ever made: Love Me Tender opposite Richard Egan, and Neville Brand.

Did not know about the Farrah connection.
But- supposedly one time Elvis took Natalie Wood down to a cotton plantation that he bought just South Of Memphis down in Mississippi.
An old buddy of mine who owned the IH dealership in Hernando, Mississippi sold elvis two tractors.
I was fortunate have seen him Perform twice.
Once early on at a charity event at the old Memphis chicks baseball field,
Once in Vegas during the big show, white jumpsuit days.

I was able to see his last show here in Corpus Christi. My Sis and BiL were dating then and took me with them. I was just glad to get out of the house awhile. I remember nothing about the last show as I wasnt paying much attention though I was an Elvis fan then too.

I posted Farrah as an after thought because her anniversary was yesterday. I refuse to remember the other one who passed same day she did.

Don't miss him at all. Crashed and burned, had millions of bucks, tossed it all in the crapper. Just too Bad, just too sad.

Cheers;
Lefty

I was in a department store on Elvis' birthday in 1978. They played "Kentucky Rain" over the music system. Several women started crying took their purses and walked out of the store. It was years before I heard another Elvis song in a store. Ivan

These cant be beat: Dont Be Cruel and Love me Tender. Also, fro what I understand? Love Me Tender dates back to the Civil War.

Elvis

I often think of the difference between Elvis and Muhamed Ali,
Elvis went and served his country when called and did it willingly and cheerfully:
Muhamed Ali who was world heavyweight boxing champion, and who, supposedly could whip any man in the world, was a draft dodger, and very vocal about it.

Funny the details you remember. I was doing a wash/wax on my old Pinto station wagon when the news came across on the car radio. Elvis is dead. I think his death affected the British as much or more than Americans.
Favorite song? Gotta be Latest Flame or I Can't Help Falling In Love With You. I was never a big fan but his music was so pervasive we almost had to pay attention.

Same here. I lost any respect I had for ali when he bragged about burning his draft card.He should have spent some time in a Jail.

i remember I was out in the hammock in the front yard listening to the radio--1440 KEYS to be exact--when they announced he had died. They played an all day marathon of his music from then to the same time the next day.
