There's a segment on Bill O'Reilly called Watters World in which Jesse Watters asks questions of the public.
'The South Won the Civil War?' Beach Babes Bomb Watters' World Memorial Day Quiz - Fox Nation

He conducted a Memorial Day Quiz and the answers to easy questions were nothing short of distressing. It makes you wonder exactly what has happened to the American education system.

People thought we fought either France or China during the American Revolution, That Lincoln was a founding father and from the south, did not know that the Civil war and the American Revolution were different conflicts, did not know who bombed Pearl Harbor, could not name the axis powers of WWII, did not know what American president authorized the use of the atomic bombs. A young black man did not know the main cause of the Civil War. It went on and on.

While at first, this appears comical and you want to laugh. In reality, it makes you want to cry. Besides poor teachers and a left-leaning, zero-tolerance, education system increasingly crowded with items from the progressive agenda, I'm also reminded that in my time and also in the present, being good in school was not considered cool and if you tried to excel, you just might become the target of bullies.

Bad system, bad teachers, classmate hostility. That's three strikes in my book.

On the surface Watters' World segments are quite funny until you realize that these clueless dolts are going to someday run the nation.

A basic understanding of world issues, current US affairs, American history and the workings of our government should be a prerequisite to voting!

I would only disagree with you to the point that these "clueless dolts" will ever run anything, except their pie holes. The "clueless dolts" have no idea that they're clueless.

It will be the people who are smart enough to get educated, who will use these useful idiots to climb to the top.

I just couldn't take my eyes off of that little lime green "t-backed" bikini bottom :D ! Seriously though, the youth of the U.S. don't have a clue. I used to do programs in our local high school on the War for Southern Independence at the 9th grade level and 99.9% of those kids had no idea. I always hoped that I at least helped put some of them on the right path about that period in our history.

The really scary part is that these idiots are voters. Numerous times Watters world has been criticized as editing so only the dummies were shown. This has been discussed and Watters insists this is not true. Even if it was, there's proof through his question and answer sessions that there are a lot of young people, college students, who have absolutely no idea of history, the people they're voting for or what these people stand for. It is really scary that these are the people that bought into the hope and change thing. Change we can believe in ended up being changes nobody wanted. It's obvious to me they have no idea where the country is going and don't really care.

I was a bad student in most things but I always liked history and geography. If I seen no reason to know algebra etc I didnt crack a book.
I think the difference is really more of a moral decline and a loss of respect for everything. Kids raising kids, the liberal media, drugs that I never was around in my era etc.

I watched that segment of Watter's World too and it was depressing to hear the answers and know these were mostly college students.
My problem with the history classes I took mainly in the 60s was there wasn't enough time to really get into depth but we did learn the basics at least. It seems as if they're not even getting that today or a lot of these students weren't paying attention.
Yes it's sad they vote and will be leading the nation one day. All you can hope is they do some researching on their own to learn some history but that too is doubtful.

Just further evidence that our country is circling the drain. Just a matter of time now. No democracy (yes,I know that technically we are a republic) has EVER survived. Ours will meet the same fate. If you don't believe that, get your head out of the sand and volunteer to be interviewed on the beach.

I tutor math at the high school/college level and it has been my experience with the students, is they completely rely upon the calculator to give them the answers. Gone are the estimation techniques to get some idea if the answer from the calculator seems reasonable. What ever number the calculator says, that is the answer! They never do an estimation check to see if an error was made inputting the number.

When we have a tutor session, the first thing I do is to take their calculator away and give then a pencil and paper. The students look like I have removed their security blanket. I show them how to look at the problem to see what shortcuts can be made to eliminate/reduce the numbers and to use their brain to solve the problems. Usually they get the correct answer a whole lot faster than using the calculator which totally surprises them.

In talking with them, the same story comes out. The "teacher" is not a teacher but more of a person who sits at the front of the room while the students learn math from sitting in front of a computer. There is no attempt to show the students how to do math in their heads. I have found college level students who do no know the basic multiplication tables, i.e. 9x6= 57! If asked what 8X6 equals, they all grab for their calculators.

I guess the adage is true, "Those who can't do math., teach it."

In Texas its called The War of Northern Aggression, and we're regrouping at the moment.:D

We in the North, after our victory, actually got on with our lives! ;)

There were two major Civil War battles here in New Mexico (I'm a transplant). The South won the first, the North won the second.

It is amazing how little history most Americans know. If it isn't a 168 character Tweet, it is too long to be bothered with.
