Opinions? Matchdot vs matchdot II?
Gearing up to buy an ultradot. What are you guys experiences with them? Matchdot I or Matchdot II w/ BDc and extra reticle styles.
Going on my 686 for general range work informal target shooting 10-50 yards, and metallic silhouette.
Wondering if I'll use the bluet drop compensator much. Maybe it will be helpful going back and fourth between .357s and specials?

Its been my experience with my Mark III that the sights with the multiple reticules don't share the same zero for each dot.

Interesting.. So changing the dot size won't come without some adjustment.. I'm really trying to figure if I'll use the BDC on the II.

I have an older match dot on two of my pistols, a 686 and a model 19. I use these for bullseye competition.

I have two older ultradots. One's slide-mounted on my Les Baer 1911 and the other on my Model 41. I can change dot size on both without making adjustments. Mine don't have the multiple reticles.

I have a MatchDot on a 41 and a Matchdot II on a 10/22 rifle.
I switched the reticle styles around a few times before deciding that the plain dot was all that I needed.
The ability to easily change elevation helps on a rifle in my opinion.

Thanks oldroger! For a 686 I might use for metallic silhouette a fee times a year would the BDC be useful? Or just easier to hold high/low

I have both and have come to prefer the original Matchdot I for repeatability and sureness of adjustment. The Matchdot II model is nice but the advantage over the original is more imagined than real and truly doesn't save a lick if effort.

My philosophy in pistol shooting is to shoot until I get a reliable zero at either 25 or 50 yards. I start supported and then switch to offhand make certain that I am still on.
I try a few days to make certain that it’s working for me so it’s an investment in time and ammunition.
I don’t want to change that zero unless I change ammunition. So personally I would rather hold over.
I never put in windage based on range conditions: I always hold off.
On paper of course it’s easy to judge hold over, if you are shooting silhouette and require a “blue sky” hold over, I suppose I would consider the II and use the elevation adjustment. Your option is to zero at the most distant and then hold under which works I guess.
The very limited silhouette shooting that I have done is with as Anschutz Rifle and a scope with target turrets.

Thanks this is exactly what I needed to hear. You sealed the deal with me on a matchdot I. I have no problem holding over since I ready do with iron sights.
