Default Anyone read Shooting by HJ Fitz

Has anyone read J Henry Fitz's book Shooting which was published in 1930? And would you recommend it?

Don't you just love the hat.

Oh course it was written for a different era. Still, if he was a colorful writer or filled in the instructional aspects with anecdotes it might be a good read. I would be disappointed if it was written like Bill Jordan's book No Second Place Winners. No disrespect intended here. That book was pretty dull for those not intending to become LEO. Again, no disrespect intended.

I would be interested in hearing about other books that Smith fans have enjoyed. I just learned that there is a novel titled I Love My Smith & Wesson by David Bowker 2004. Obviously a detective crime novel not necessarily of interest to this group.

I am focused on Fitz's modified fighting snub nosed revolvers but also interested in any titles you might suggest.

I never read it but that has got to be a good book. Ten minutes ago Ed McGivern's "Fast and Fancy Shooting..." book just showed up via UPS from a friend. Another classic. That "Fitz Special" you posted is the .44 Special gunwriter John Taffin had made. There's a great article on it online somewhere. My chopped bare metal 1917 Colt is as close as I'll ever get.

I recommend it, both for hisorical referenceand for his observations and insights. I remember him writing that he had handled and fired something 1200 firearms and that firearms testing had palled on him.
