I was a hot dog addict when I was a little boy.

I had my tonsils removed when I wasn't quite six.

The first thing I wanted was a hot dog, I like them burnt.

That was the best hot dog I ever ate but it was sure hard to eat it.

Hebrew National is the best (and healthiest) beef "red hots".

Zweigle's or Sahlen's are the champs for pork "white hots" and close runners-up for red hots (especially on the grill).

Thread drift......

All the hot dogs recommended here (the ones we can get), are great.

The famous local 'pool hall' had sausage dogs on special buns that were fantastic. Eventually the supplier stopped providing both and I was in mourning. Funny thing was that about 25 years ago they moved to a building that didn't have room for pool, but it was always called the 'pool hall'.

Vienna Beef dogs if prepared the way they're supposed to: Steamed and served on a poppy seed bun with all the fixins.

Never forget the time I was visiting my native Chicago. A female New Yorker asked the hot dog stand attendant for ketchup. The attendant stood mouth agape and pointed to the condiment stand. I think it's illegal in the City of Chicago (among other things...) to use ketchup on a hot dog.

Hoffmans

I used to eat only OM beef then they changed them and ruined them. I recently discovered Hoffmans Beef at Publix, they are very good especially on the grill.

If you're in the Midwest, Daisy Brand natural casing hot dogs from the Crawford Sausage Company in Chicago are hard to beat. You can get them here in the supermarkets but you can also order them online.

My mouth is watering. I just added hot dogs to the week's grocery list.

The first time my wife made hot dogs for me she boiled them..........Yechhhhh!

Thereafter I made them by cooking them on the grill. She even said they tasted better. Believe me they couldn't have gotten any worse.

I'm glad she doesn't read this forum and nobody here better rat me out.

Oh yeah...Hebrew National for sure.

When I was first married & living with my future ex-wife in Arkansas, she told me about a local place whose specialty was hot dogs. It sounded like a foot long chili dog, with a liberal helping of cole slaw served on top of it. I said this sounded sickening & would have my slaw on the side. She insisted that it had to be on the dog, to allow the flavors to mingle. Well, I gave in & it turned out she was right. It was delicious! I've since ordered "slaw dogs" in different states, getting some odd looks every now & then...

Arkansas tradition, the local Tastee Freezes (including Homers not to mention found in most small town diners) make a foot long chilli dog (Nathan's) that is the bomb. Chilli, mustard cheese, onions, and Cole slaw make for a real treat. Although I can not eat it but like once every 3 months. Cholesterol and all.

Branson, MO has a place called Mickey's. While it is a standard Vienna Beef stand they make some great Italian Beefs and Chicago Dogs. Awesome stuff but probably not the most healthiest things you can eat.

I have eaten pretty good dogs from everywhere including the "Red Rippers" from Rutt's Hut in Clifton NJ (dropped into the deep fryer for that ripped goodness heaven) to the Varsity in Atlanta. Best dogs of my life are from Whole Foods: Wellshire Farms skinless premium uncured all beef franks. They're $7 for a 7pack. Eat one and all the rest are all the rest. This is a recent discovery and purely accidental as I would never go to a "Whole Paycheck" food store. My wife on the other hand has no problem dropping a Franklin+ on enough grub to barely fill the "green" (actually it's red) insulated tote. Joe
