Who makes the best hotdogs.

Where's the Piccalilli?;)

Hebrew National is ok for when I can't get Ambassadors. Their Old Fashion Wieners are top dog. Made in Minneapolis, and sold only in Minnesota and the eastern Dakotas, so I guess the rest of you are out of luck. I like them best grilled until they split, then served on a fresh bun with onions and Pickapeppa.

Skin on, and when you get them in the bulk pack, still linked together like links should be.

I'm not too picky.....as long as it's loaded with valleydale chili.

Brookside!

Hands down...Brookside natural casing hot dogs are the best I have eaten. Made in Cleveland, Ohio. I always take them to our S&W Northeast Ohio "Bunch" meetings...they do not last long!

Here in my neck of the woods it would be Berks, local meat packing plant, National brands can't compare! ;)

The brand doesn't seem to matter much to me, but they have to be steamed.

I finally bought one of those industrial steamers with the windows, dogs on one side buns on the other. Like you see in a convenience store. Best thing I ever bought. When we have a party or cook out, I load it up, set it and forget it.

My favorite topping when I can find them is pickled asparagus and mustard.

I never have two hot dogs with the same toppings on the same day. One with mustard and onions, one with ketchup, one with asparagus, etc.

Zweigle's ... champs for pork "white hots" and close runners-up for red hots (especially on the grill).

Agree with the Zweigle's part, but only from Wegmans. I'm a displaced Western New Yorker who get supplied from friends and family on road trips or shipped.

Nathan's Dinner Beef Franks, sold four to a pack, each frank is 6" long.

I buy them at Walmart along with Nature's Own Hot Dog Butter Buns.

Rolfs pork store in Albany NY, made in the store, also THE best Brats in the U.S. my brother in laws father owned a Karl Ehmer pork store and lived in Austria for awhile ,he said best he ever ate.

  1. As a rule, I don't like hotdogs. Too bland. I prefer garlic knockwurst or chorizo.
  2. The "5 Star" local brand is decent, especially the "hot German" style.
  3. Slovenian hot dogs from the West Side Market here are also good.
Oscar Meyer? Not so much.

You don't buy "fat free" hot dogs, that's just stupid, sacrilegious, and they taste like nothing. Nothing wrong with chicken and pork in a hot dog. They have good flavor and they're probably less fat than beef. I like mine like diamondback68 does, chili, mustard, and onions. Chicago gets too carried away with toppings. Nobody eats hot dogs with ketchup. I wish we could get those poppy seed buns down here. I also like the hot dog sized kielbasa, but I don't call them a hot dog, and I can't find them like I used to.

Like Ben Matlock, I love a really good hotdog. Who makes the best you can buy for home cooking, not your favorite hotdog stand like Nathan's and such? I know you can buy Nathan's in stores, but they are not the same either. Most of the likely suspect makers from H and O.M. just aren't cutting it any more. Wonder if some of them may have given into the "pink slime" thing, just wondering?
Had a couple dogs at a Tampa Bay Rays game this summer that were delicious, but I think they came from an Institutional provider like Sysco or such and are not for home sales.
BTW, the only things allowed on any hotdog I eat is chilli, mustard and onions.
What say you hotdog experts? :D

Ill never go back to any of the lesser brands like: B-Bar,Oscar Meyer etc. Ive never tried the Hebrew dogs but0--I like teh Ball park all beef franks. I usually get the Angus ones. To me they have aslightly sweet taste that works out well--and dont shoot me for it but--I like chili and cheese on mine with MAYO--I cant do Mustard because im allergic to it...NO--sauerkraut--relish-pickles-ketchup--etc.
