Freedom from the STAN
Ladies and Gentlemen, I am heading to the Land of the Big PX tonight !! I left Afghanistan earlier than planned due to a medical problem with my 75 year old father. I am sitting in Kuwait patiently waiting for my United Airlines flight.
I want to say "Thanks" to forum members for all the prayers and input to my many postings and to the moderators for their tolerance.
Keep our troops and all the Americans trying to bring peace to this troubled region in your prayers.
The boss here in Kuwait offered me "Deluxe Accommodations" if I decided to go back to Iraq!! I think Saddam's palace would be OK, I bet he is thinking of a Tent!!
As always you all have kept me sane and safe.
Peyton

Have a safe journey home. I have enjoyed your posts from over there. I hope things go well for you and your Dad. Best wishes and good luck with that.
A couple months ago when I returned from a trip to visit friends in Europe my first official encounter here in the U.S. was with a Customs Inspector at Philadelphia who asked the usual questions and finished up with, "Welcome Home!" It meant a lot to me. I hope you get the same treatment somewhere along the line, but if you don't - Welcome Home!

I wanted to give an update, we arrived late in Washington dullest airport. Customs and security screening went well. Since our flight arrived late we all missed our connecting flights.
We (several soldiers) found the nearest bar, an in accordance with Professor Alan Jackson "IT'S 5 o'clock somewhere" we all had a beer, and bloody Mary with breakfast!!
Thanks for the support.

Welcome back.
And just remember what Dorothy said,

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. My fathers surgery went well and he is recovering. Hardest thing to do is keep an old man in bed or in the house when he is used to being on the go all the time!!
