Default Rod Taylor passes

Every body keeps listing his big movies but nobody mentions The Liquidator.

Default I'm not THAT familiar......

I'm not THAT familiar with R.T.s work, but I really liked him in the 'Time Machine', 'Birds' and the 'Twilight Zone'. I didn't realize he was in 'Giant'. So long to another good actor.

I saw him in quite a few movies. It would only be my speculation, but I expect the Hitchcock movie, "The Birds" he was in, would rank up high with the memorable movies us "old boys and girls" ever saw.

I have the DVD of the short-lived "Bearcats" TV show with him in it. It was set in the SW circa 1914, Taylor and his sidekick running around in the Stutz. Unfortunately the video quality was terrible and impossible to finish watching. I thought Taylor did a good job with it, though.

You beat me to this sad news. He was 84. I just saw himearlier this week in: The Time Machine. Ive always liked him too. Try: The Train Robbers, Dark of the Sun and 36 Hours--opposite James Garner. Those IMO--were his best films. I dont care much for Alfred hitchcock movies--so The Birds aint on my list.

Rest in Peace Rod....

Wow I forgot 36 Hours. It didn't get great reviews but I liked it. Eva Marie Saint lent a lot to the movie too.

We lost a fine actor, Taylor, and a great musician the same day. Andrae Crouch, a great innovator in gospel music and advisor to rock musicians about incorporating the gospel sound into their charts, died at 72.

I pretty much enjoyed everything he made. Something kind of weird happened just this week. I have been cleaning out my large VHS collection and buying them in DVD. I had a stack of VHS tapes on the kitchen table. My Son was going through them and selected Dark of the Sun with Rod Taylor. I ordered the movie off EBAY Tuesday morning. I opened the mail box Thursday afternoon just after learning he had passed and the DVD was there. Made it from Florida to Virginia in 2 days standard mail. We watched it last night. Excellent movie. RIP

There were many surprises for me seeing that movie the first time. Some of the others in it include Werner Peters as the Gestapo agent--portraying a kindly German Dr. John Banner as the portly Home Guard sergeant(at the end of the movie--who also shoots Peters) and the gy who played Alfred in the Batman TV series-was in the movie as a British general?

I loved the whole idea for the movie. Great story--great acting great cast. About 2 years ago,I nabbed a complete set of lobby cards for this movie--the large kind. Got them for a steal too.

Aussie born, just like Errol Flynn, Michael Pate and such, but all became American citizens. I think Pate was also living in Los Angeles when he passed away a few years ago.L.A. was where Taylor resided too.

Nobody has yet mentioned Taylor's appearance in the TV series "Hong Kong," also starring... Lloyd Bochner.

I especially like the ending of "Time Machine" when George returns to the future after taking 3 books. And the question was, "What 3 books would you take?"

I had forgot 36 Hours as well. Kind of neat the German's knew there would be a NATO so to speak after the war. I recall the MP guard smacking heels and that alerted James Garner something was wrong.

As a kid anything with Lloyd Bochner always gave me the creeps. He never played a good guy. His stuff on Dragnet was always just dirty. Those evil looks he gave with that voice and eyes. Did he ever play a good part?

I looked up Bochner. MANY roles. He was one of the solid pros on the Richard Boone anthology show in '63-4. No way Boone would have had him were Bochner not skillful. I remember him most notably on the show "Judd For The Defense," on which he played a cruise-ship doctor who filed suit against a heart surgeon played by another Canadian actor, John Vernon. Both also appeared in Lee Marvin's "Point Blank."

Thanks for quoting me.
