I lived there for 20 years until I retired 18 months ago.
Gunsmiths are so few there. The old good ones were mostly rifle shotgun and have departed the planet. I do not know of any pistol smiths there.
Go to the yellow pages, look for gun smiths, call and ask who might work on pistols. Then I look at their work before I let them touch anything. I think you may have to send it out of town.
P.S. What is the brand and issue with your pistol?

For 1911's or Smiths, try Eric at 618-357-8000 (Tamaroa, IL).

Try Bill's Gunsmithing in Silex.
You could also check with Trailcreek Trade Co. in St. Ann and see who they recommend.

I don't know Bill.
Yes to Trailcreek for info, they know everyone. Trailcreek has lots of older handguns.

I sold most of my stuff a few months ago for new home funds. I knew that when I bought them. I kept my 4" 629 as my only 44 mag, it has the lock and MIM parts. It is what I want for now, stainless and goes kaboom.
The weather here is very similar to STL. No breaks on that one.
I do miss the gun shops and gun shows there.
Trailcreek usually has many older guns, revolvers and autos. Neat place miss it too.
If you do find something please let me know. My 629 is nothing like my old 29-2's trigger.
