Our Enjoyable Past
I believe every Senior Citizen has done this with his friends when we had hardly any money to spend. Had to laugh when I came across it.
We went to the Revere Drive In, always had a Pint of Bacardi to splash in our cokes.

The drive-ins around here were wise to it and we often had to open the trunk on the way in. Also anybody remember those Nash Ramblers with the the lay-down seats? Oh, and don't forget to remove the speaker form the car door before leaving.

1970, The Twin Drive-in. Carmen Baby and Barbarella.
Three in the trunk of a 1967 Buick Electra 225.
The car drug the ground. We got caught.
MENSA cancelled our applications.

This one...
On US1, closed early 80's, now part of Ft. Laud / Hollywood airport.
It kept tripling in size until everyone just it called the HiWay 9.
One of the first to have that little flex duct that blew cool air.
At the time the future Mrs. Native drove a '68 sq. back VW we'd back in to the slot, pop the hatch and go from there.

For one, I am very glad I was able to enjoy growing up in what America used to be.
I am currently deeply saddened at what has become of our once proud and great Country.
The saying "Times Change" couldn't be more accurate! But NOT for the better!!!!!!!

When the trunk trick no longer worked we would jump the fence and watch the movie from the playground in front of the screen, didn't matter if there was no sound it was more about something to do than the actual movie. Come to think of it, most trips to the drive in had little to do with watching the movie.
Paradise by the dashboard lights.

We got away with someone in the trunk before but still had to pay something. To get around even that I once drove my 1964 Ford Falcon through the field behind the drive-in with my lights out into the back as they had no fence. There is a mall now where the drive-in was.
There still were two other drive-ins near here still open until a year or so ago when one closed. The other was going to also close but a family member of the elderly owner decided to take it over and now it's become a popular cruise place for vintage cars. They'll do a cruise until dark and then show some old movies. Seems to be working well for them.

My home town didn't have a drive-in, but the movie theatre we did have was "indoor- outdoor" the ticket window and concessions were under a flat roof, the projectionist room was above, and the seating and screen were open air. A friend (we were all friends, population 560) lived across the street in a big old house with a screened in porch up on the roof. We watched from there sometimes, as a kid. Cost .35 to get into the pictures.
But highschool in Corpus, there were several the "Twin Palms" only one I remember. Remember the neon. Lord I loved the neon.
