I remember him when he used to sing at the old Bamboo Ranch in Savannah. Man that was a long time ago.

How sad! I liked his Tenor voice as he sang "Down In The Boondocks".
R.I.P. Billy Joe Royal. We'll miss you.

RIP Billy Joe.
I didn't remember who wrote Boondocks.
It was Another GA Peach, Joe South.
And I see that he also has passed.

RIP Billy Joe Royal and thanks for all those great tunes.
He did a fantastic job on this Bee Gee's tune, which became one of my favorites.

I was a fan and remember back in the late 60s when BJR played the local Kentucky dance circuit. Gypsy Village, Club 68, Ewing Lane and a few more. I saw him several times and he always tried hard.
This later tune is one of my favorites. Burn Like a Rocket was a small hit but BJR had the bad timing of releasing the song shortly before the Challenger accident and most radio stations quit playing it after the explosion out of respect. He could sing tear jerkers with the best of them.
RIP Billy Joe Royal
