Topless icon Carol Doda dies at age 78 | Fox News

Maybe some of you will remember wandering around the North Beach area of San Francisco in the late 60's after you got out of the Army. Maybe you wandered into the Condor Club.

Anyhow, the star of the show died Monday in San Francisco at age 78. Rest in peace, Carol, and thanks for the memories (sp).

I lived in the Bay Area back in the 60s. TV channel 36, I forget which channel on the dial, would display a nicely angled pic of Carol and a recording of her saying You're watching the perfect 36. :)

Carol Doda was a Bay Area icon for a very long time. Well done Carol.

TV channel 36,

Phill, I think that was WICU, owned by James Gabert (sp.) Remember Gary from MMM carpets?

I spent many a happy hour at the Condor Club, and had one or more interactions with Jim and Artie. I'll say no more.

Holy 'Cow'...

I saw something that even 50 years ago that she was 'enhanced'. I guess you have to go back even further to be 100% sure of the real thing. Jane Russell, Jayne Mansfield, etc. And it's good to know that Annette was all real.

Hubba, Hubba. Trend setters where would we be without them. It's really art. European countries look at this as art. Why is the naked human body so bad? They don't need enhancements to look good.

We lived in SF in the 60s and went to see Carol. I'm sure she didn't remember me but I sure remember her. I also remember the cover charge and drink minimum (2) to get in to see her. Seemed like a lot to pay for the experience but at the time it was the think to do.

thanks for the news .....

was discharged from the air force in 1971 in frisco . me and a friend hit the bars to celebrate . the last one we picked was where carol doda preformed . i remember we were feeling no pain .... and suddenly she came down from the ceiling on that piano ! my buddy was passed out and did not get to see it !
to this day , i did not know her name or who she was ..... unique time in my life with lots of memories . thanks again rock

Yes, CD was one of the many top shows in the Bay Area to catch if you could.
A great time to be "Alive" in SF and surrounding areas.

I was born in SF and later moved to "Mill Valley" where my father could get some sleep............. :D

This is a little drifty.....

But talking about old memories from clubs long ago.

There was this infamous dive (The Joker Club) that had all the usual attractions but this place had something the others didn't. A really over the hill, overweight tassel dancer. Wait a minute, it's not as bad as it sounds. Her tassels were day-glo in the usual places and on her rear and they would turn the main lights off and the black light on and she would do her routine, keeping up a banter the whole time. She was AMAZING and could do every trick in the book and some that weren't. I thought she looked like a four engine airplane The way it was presented it was great entertainment and good clean fun. Ah the old days.
