Need some serious discussion....
There needs to be some serious discussion on whether us old codgers should shave or not....
Problem, as we old codgers get older, our skin no longer has the elasticity as it did when we were younger. Therefore it becomes hard and harder to obtain a really close shave.
No matter how many times I go over the same area, using one blade, or multiple, no matter what type of "shaving cream" I use, primarily plain ole soap. But I've used about everything that is a liquid, except Dawn dish soap. But I just can't seem to get that really smooth face that I once used to get.
The barber says it's because as we get older, we lose that elasticity in our skin....
So, is the answer to just TRY and grow a beard and be done with it?
My problem with that is, if I did, then when I smoke one of my cigars, I'd look like Lassie, taking a squat.
Ah, the problems and decisions of growing older.
What say you?

In general, you should avoid all situations where your face looks like Lassie takin' a squat. Do it for the children!

Nope
Ain't worth the trouble, I'm so mean I have to hold a gun to my head to keep me from cutting my throat. Besides, leaves good place to store snacks between meals.

ALL the men and half the women around here have beards. Makes being a confirmed bachelor a much easier choice.

Havn't shaved in 35 years. As I get older, it helps with memory issues like what I had for lunch.

I haven't shaved since 1979 except for my neck and I find it harder to shave now that I'm 62. I used to keep my beard trimmed down pretty short but this fall I grew it out longer and my usual short hair too. Both are about white now and if I let my mustache get a bit long it gets stained with coffee and cigars.
I don't know how long I'll let both grow but if I shaved my beard off I'd have to learn how to shave all over again. First I heard about our skin not being so elastic as we age but makes sense with my neck shaving problems now.

I've had a beard for about 1 1/2 years now.
Mrs. Hillbilly wanted me to grow one.
I wasn't sure about it at first, but then it grew on me.

Besides the loss of elasticity, we start to grow unwanted warts, tags and bumps on our body.

You can't ask us old codgers to answer a serious question, because most of the time we have forgotten the answer if we ever new it in the first place. That's why old timers always come up with some humorous attempt at a response to a question. To hide their lack of knowledge on the subject or to not display their memory loss.
I have noticed it's harder to get a closer shave so I have been changing my razors out weekly instead of monthly and I shave in the shower and use Coconut oil instead of shaving cream.

There you go....I've found that if I can make fun about myself, most folks know what I'm talking about...Better to poke fun at myself, instead of at other's expense.
I've probably got enough to tell about myself, clear up to 2017 to keep you going...Some stuff, I'm glad the ole Brownie camera didn't capture it all. (Here's one for you folks who can relate....What size film was used in the ole Brownie box camera?)

Now it's getting on towards time to spruce up for Christmas...I've got a pot of beans a simmering on the stove, so that'll mean I can take a bubble bath tonight.
I've still got a little big of polish left, from earlier this fall, when I washed and waxed the truck. So I recon I can use some of that to polish my ole "Chrome Dome". So I ought to be real spiffy by this time tomorrow. MAYBE...
It's just that close shave business...I still see the Burma Shave signs every now and then along the road side, saying I could get a close shave using it. But I ain't seen none of that in the stores for some time now.
I've got to go to town tomorrow, so I might stop by the barber shop and see if he'll let me have a splash or two of that Rose water for some smell good. Then I think I'll be set.
We don't have any of that Mistletoe stuff Caj is talking about around here...Got some Dogwood bushes though. I might see if I can find some, and rub a little of that on me....Ain't nobody I'm going to be kiss'n, n'less it's my dog.
Welp' I better git around, and get something done today. Next thing I know, I'll be nap time.

I just got a haircut, hadn't been to the barber in a year. Before that it had been another year. It's hard keeping up with the local gossip that way. I've had a moustache since i was a sophomore in high school, the beard has come and gone. I'm thinking of trimming it up Buffalo Bill style now...

I'm 70 and I just can't get the "manscape" nonsense. A mans body (at least most) are naturally hairy. I mean hair all over. If someone decides to do this manscaping, where do you stop? Shaving your face is something most of us do every day. It takes a few minutes to do it right. So then when you start manscaping you move down to your chest then continue down to your other parts and, I would assume legs as well. Then you have to have someone do your back and other spots you couldn't reach. Then it starts growing back and gets scratchy. Then you start all over again. Of course then there's waxing. Totally insane IMHO.
I applaud the "real" man who ignores the nonsense!

Hairy arms, legs, chest, back and head but, I can't stand growing a beard. However, I've been thinking of growing a Wyatt Earp style mustache.

Talking about having trouble getting a close shave now, reminds me of the ol' story:
A man enters a barber shop for a shave. While the barber is foaming him up, he mentions the problems he has getting a close shave around the cheeks.
"I have just the thing," says the barber taking a small wooden ball from a nearby drawer. "Just place this between your cheek and gum."
The client places the ball in his mouth and the barber proceeds with the closest shave the man has ever experienced. After a few strokes the client asks in garbled speech.
"And what if I swallow it?"
"No problem," says the barber. "Just bring it back tomorrow like everyone else does."

You might have me there, 8 pictures per roll of film.
The box cameras, two viewfinders
The later little Brownies, one eye level.

and the shutter lever was on the front, with the lens.
Sheesh...I figured you'd be at least using one of those Ansco cameras, instead of one of those old box cameras...It was better back in the day, when you'd take the film to the drug store, and they'd send it off, and your pictures would come back in one of those little folder things, and the date printed on them..

Well the bubble bath is about ready...I can tell. Just hope there aren't any lumps in the bubbles.. . .
I think I'll take a book of matches in with me...I haven't tried to light bubbles in many a year....Didn't work before, so I don't know what I think will be different this time. But what the hey!!!! Be a kid again...right???

A serious discussion, are you kidding. I used to shave every day when I was working, when I retired, I started shaving every other day, I did that for about a month, then I started shaving when ever I felt like it, my wife didn't care to much for it, even my fishing buddies asked me why I wasn't shaving, I said why should I,next thing none of them were shaving either, one day my wife was driving by one of my favorite watering holes and saw my truck and decided to stop by and say Hi, we were sitting around a table shooting the bull and having a few cold ones, when I got home she said, boy you guys look like a bunch of Bum's.

An old fart should always be clean shaven, and never, ever have a pony tail.

I went through periods where I wore a mustache and other periods where I wore a full beard, but those days are long behind me. I don’t shave every day unless I am going into town among the mobs and throngs. Just around here by myself I don’t see any reason to shave since my dog doesn’t care one way or the other.
But my hair is thinning some and getting whiter and less gray every day. My beard is white also and with my belly, I don’t care to be mistaken as Santa Clause. I mean I could not even sit down in public without worrying about feisty young coeds running over to sit in my lap and tell me what they want for Christmas. Wait a minute……

I tried that a few years back and nearly bled to death before I gave it up. I found packs of 100 safety razors on Amazon for a little over 10 bucks shipped. I picked up 200 and they are real good and should last me as long as these remaining body parts last.

No. But it works great on nose hair.

Why would you want to grow on your face what grows around a "Anus"?
I once asked a guy with a beard to stick his tongue out because I wanted to see what a "Hemorrhoid" looked like.

I've worn a mustache since I got out of the Army way back in 1975. I mustache looks pretty good on me. That first winter after I retired I grew a full beard. Come about that next April I took a long look in the mirror and realized that it just didn't work. I've seen drunks in the gutter with better looking beards than what I had. So off it came.
Strangely enough, I actually shave more now than when I was working. I was an equipment mechanic for 42 years. It was dirty work and nobody really cared if you shaved or not. Generally, I'd shave maybe twice a week. I was a master of the 2-3 day stubble look.
Now I'm retired and dating. I shave every time I go to see my lady. Gotta look good for her ya know.
