"Im Your Huckleberry'' Doc Holiday fans. It an actual quote by him, or hollywood bs?
I was recently going through the few guns that reside with me. For some reason unkn to me, I swear I didn't see this when I was buying my Cimmarron ''Colt'' .45 earlier in 2015. An interesting find came in the box with the gun. I picked up the foam stuff and saw a large bumper sticker that came with it an it had the: "I'm Your Huckleberry'' quote with it. Anyway, is it proved that this is a Doc Holiday quote? or is that pure hollywood horse feathers?

It is from the 1993 film "Tombstone" where Val Kilmer plays Doc. Whether he ever said it in real life...shrug. There was no Boswell handy in the late 19th Century American West. I suppose Doc could have said it.
World Wide Words: Huckleberry suggests the word and phrase were in use around that time. So like any other common idiom, it would seem plausible for Doc to have used it in some context at some point.
Whether he killed Johnny Ringo or not is not known for sure, nor does anyone agree on much of what happened at the time.

I know I've said it a few times recently, mostly to anti-gunners (and Gestapo types) who directed impotent threats my way.
You've got to look the bully in the eye and say "no". No bully ever stopped being a bully because he got what he wanted BY being a bully.

Of course Doc Holiday said it. It sounds really cool, and besides that, they don't make stuff up like that just for movies.

Great, ain't it.
No matter if it was true or not, I love western movies."I'm your Huckleberry". Did sound cool, didn't it. I would bet more than a few here have said it out loud more than once. My absolute favorite is Charles Bronson, Once Upon A Time In The West, "You brought two too many".

That is an excellent line! I wish that I had said it!
On to a bigger issue- the red sashes that the Cowboys wore.
Did Arizona Cowboys really wear red sashes?
I know you Arizona guys are trendy and fashionable, but red sashes?

It would have been way cooler I'd Johnny Ringo had looked at Doc and said "Come with me if you want to live"

heck I thought it was Johnny Depp who said the " I'm your Huckleberry/Huckle Bearer" quote. By the way, on closed captioning, it comes up as Huckleberry... but since they get so much movie dialogue wrong when they caption it, that I'm not sure which it is/was...Also, I'm not very good on knowing the names of movie stars ....

It's still a hotly debated argument wether Val Kilmer said "huckleberry" or "hucklebearer" in the movie.
My ears can't tell the difference.

Doc, was given the majority of the memorable lines in Tombstone. "must be a peach of a hand", "your a daisy if you do", "you look like somebody just walked over your grave", " I'm not retired, I'm in my prime", "I've not yet begun to defile myself". I know there are others but they escape me right now.
I guess I'll have to watch Tombstone for the 10th time to pick a few more out. I love the movie.

Don't know fi he said it but he did tell someone "your a daisy if you do".
Doc H. was a dentist and won awards for his dentures.
Since he was dying he loved confrontations and fights. What did he have to lose?
I am getting towards the end of the book "the last gunfight". It is about the fight at the OK corral. Very informative but could have been written a lot better. Long, slow and repeats itself several times.

For those fans of Doc Holliday I can't recommend more highly "Bucking The Tiger" by Bruce Olds, a historical fiction novel. "Doc Holliday: The Life and Legend" by Gary Roberts is an outstanding non-fiction treatment of Holliday. I believe Holliday to be one of the most fascinating men of the old West. I read that many historians believe that Val Kilmer's portrayal to be the most accurate of the man.

For once the actor was not way too old as often happens. Holiday died at 36, Kilmer was 34 when movie was made.

As I understand it, "I am your huckleberry" means "I am your man" or "I am just the right man for the job".
The script for Tombstone is or at least was available on IMDB and the line, as scripted/written seems to have been "huckleberry".

Why Huckleberry? "I'm your Gooseberry, Strawberry, Blackberry or Raspberry, Blueberry or Cranberry?"

Well let me take a shot at answering your query.
"I'm your Gooseberry” is just too obscure as most people have never heard of gooseberries, and besides it sounds like something you do to someone to goose them.
"I'm your Strawberry” is just too sweet sounding, and sounds like some kind of birth mark.
"I'm your Blackberry” sounds like some kind of cell phone communication, and besides blackberries are out of season.
"I'm your Raspberry” sounds like a nasty noise someone makes and is just plain uncouth.
"I'm your Blueberry” sounds pretty enough, but just does not have the right implication for accepting a challenge or claiming to be the right person.
"I'm your Cranberry” is just a little too gay sounding for someone like Doc Holliday to be using, and would better be used in a movie like Broebeck Mountain.
Ah, but a Huckleberry is not some super sweet, mushy berry, but a manly berry with a manly sounding name.

Very rational distinguishing points about berries, I never knew so much thought went into a selecting a berry type when challenging an opponent!

And the Huckleberry controversy lives on. Regardless of one word over the other I think we all know Doc's intent, whatever the word.
How about the seemingly unlimited rounds shot out of the Earp's and Doc's six shooters? I lost count on Doc's after about 20 shots from 2 six shot Colts. Also Doc manages three shots out of the double barreled shotgun during the OK Coral fight.
"I will not be pawed at, Thank you very much"
"Remember, we agreed to play for blood"
"He was just too high strung"
"I don't" (referring to Buck Taylor's comments to Doc about having lots of friends after the fight by the creek).

I'm watching it right now on AMC. Doc Holliday was certainly the most interesting character in the script.
Great film. Only way it could have been better is if Ike had died with a face full of 8 gauge reckoning.
Too bad history would not allow it.
