Wild Turkey Assaults Mail Carrier, Gobblers Run Amuck in NJ
The NY Times, my source for all threats to public safety, is reporting on the latest evidence of the downfall of Western civilization. Here is the link: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/19/ny...-article-click

Been a problem in the "burbs of the Burgh" for at least 15 years.
When we had 3 hens and 36+ fuzz ball pullets in the backyard one spring...... it was cool.
When a flock walks across the road in front of you it's a bit inconvenient....
When a big Tom trying to get airborn misses your windshield by less than a foot....... it dang scary...
I'm only about 10 mile (in a straight line) from the "Three Rivers"...... deer by the dozen..... turkey by the flock...... coyotes ...... and even the occasional bear........................
meanwhile at the cabin in the Laurel Highlands of the Allegheny's ..... wildlife is in decline.
Use to see 5-6 herds of 10-20 deer every summer evening..... now maybe 3 or 4 deer over a 3 day weekend....... wasting disease and
coyotes...
a few turkey.... but LOL.. lots of turkey vultures

Our lab kept the two flocks of turkeys in our neighborhood away from us while we worked outside.

Easy enough problem to solve.
Bam Bam I had a gobbler clip the tip of my radio antenna a few years back after seeing him take a 100 yard running take off. I'm not sure there the antenna clipped him but he might have been a hen after that.
Disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with Remington nor any of its companies. I also like turkey.

My dad was a rural mail carrier. He used to carry a K22 with him and every now and then would bring home a pheasant he had shot. Never had to worry about buckshot.

I've had a young Tom turkey hanging out with my guinea hen since November. Their inseparable, always out around the chicken yard, rabbit cages, and garden and when I'm working outside he wanders around just a few feet from me. Haven't had any trouble out of him, but, if he ever goes bad, he goes in the pot!
Sitting on the porch rail the other day-

I didn't get off easy, was going down highway at 55 mph. A
flock came off the ridge, one took my windshield. I have to
dodge them all the time.
