Could someone please tell me if Bob Chow worked at the Gun Exchange in San Fran around 1954. If there is information out there could you please let me know, Thank you so much. Bob Chow was an excellent marksman and gunsmith.

I don't know about 1954, but in the 1980's Mr. Chow had his own gun shop on Mission St. In San Francisco. He sold it in the early 90's I believe. I read recently that the most recent owners shut down after tiring of the City's policies. (The owners of the San Francisco Gun Exchange, the Posner family, did the same a few years earlier for the same reason.)
I loved both shops. Mr. Chow taught me more about bullseye shooting just by giving me advice as I stood at his counter than I ever learned elsewhere. He sold me my first target pistol: a S&W Model 41.
The Posners are a wonderful family and ran a great store. Bought lots of guns there. I was one of their "low-end" buyers but I was always treated as a valued customer.

Had a M/GySgt. that had a k38 done by Bob Chow. He showed it to me one time. The hard-*** shot the top of the head off of a jack-rabbit at aboot 50 yds. All he could see was the top of the head. Off-hand, of course. (That means one-handed to you youngsters. lol. )

While stationed there in the Navy I bought a broom handle Mauser from The San Francisco Gun Exchange for $30.00. I mailed it home. I also got a tattoo from Lyle Tuttle.

Bob Chow

I live in San Francisco, and I loved and miss the San Francisco Gun Exchange. It was a spectacular place, the kind of shop that belonged in a City like like San Francisco, gateway to the gold rush and adventurers from the world over. I bought several guns there, some I still have.

Just to enter the place, you had to walk trough these giant elephant tusks, not PR these days, but reflection of our past.

I have a 6" Blue Colt Phyton that had accurized, ported, target sights installed, and trigger pull adjusted by Bob Chow in the Mission, that can group 1/2" or less without trying hard, with my own light loads. I sure miss those times where people did something other than look at a screen all day, virtual shooting cartoons... I like the smell of powder in the morning! :-)
