Recently purchased a crossover truck tool box from Northern Tool. It's made by Better Built. I know it's a cheap basic aluminum box.

This thing leaks like a sieve around the lid!

Running through a car wash, it had a half gallon of water in it.

I tried to adjust the lid to close tighter, but to no avail.

Any tips on adding weather stripping?

Find some "car guys"near you. There are a zillion kinds of weatherstripping out there, but without seeing *exactly* what you are dealing with it is really hard to speculate. There are "push on" types with various size rubber bulbs attached, and straight up, and 90 degrees...Anybody that does restoration work should be able to look at the box and point you in the right direction.

My Delta aluminum box uses material around the inside perimeter of the lid similar to the adhesive backed foam rubber weather stripping you can buy in rolls for use between the bed rail and pickup truck caps. Never leaks. When I close the lid, I can feel the foam rubber compressing the last 1/2 inch or so as it closes, making for a tight seal.

Does it keep rain out? That's really all it's supposed to do, if a car wash sprays high pressure upwards at the right angle I could see how water might get in. But you might try some of the one-sided sticky weather stripping from Home Depot/Lowes.

Thanks boys.

I went to Lowes and got some bulbed, tear drop contoured stick on for house windows. Placed it on the inside lip of the lid. Time will tell.

What's happening is the water is bouncing off the tonneau and running up and under the lid. My seciencetific wild guess.

This is a cheap box. If I adjust the lid tight enough to compress the factory foam, the latches won't catch.

Thx again.

Roger that. I'll be looking for this type seal.

How do you seal between the storage box and the Tonneau cover?

You can fix basically anything on a vehicle by cracking an egg into it or pouring a coke on it.

Try those.
