Default First the Koreans then the Russians Now The Chinese

Two Chinese military aircraft came within 50 feet of a U.S. military aircraft over the South China Sea on Tuesday in an "unsafe" intercept, CBS News' national security correspondent David Martin reports.

The pilot of U.S. aircraft, an EP-3, reported it as an unsafe intercept by the Chinese J-11s and descended couple hundred feet to avoid a potential collision.

It occurred east of Hainan Island and south of Hong Kong.

Is there a theme occurring?

IMHO, this is just SOP. The only difference now is the 24/7 instant access news cycle. Can you imagine how many times things like this happened during the Cold War that never made the news? And I'm sure the US has come in hot and close on a Soviet spy plane a time or 2.

No offense but if you go into someone's backyard expect something like this. And I wouldn't at all be surprised if we do the same......or at least should do

Hey, I'm not here to claim to know what the president should or would do. I'm simply saying that if you were in my backyard armed and hovering around I'd make it known that you're not welcome dispite your actual intentions. I also expect you would do the same if the roles were reversed. What you would actually do is your problem.

This is what happens when you walk loudly and carry a small stick.

you need to define "backyard". if it is in international airspace or water that isn't in the "backyard".
