2 hours and 45 minutes worth of hiking.
Beautiful day for a nice hike.
My legs felt kinda heavy. Must be time to back off a little.
I am down another pound to 177.
Just 2 more by the end of the month.
Then I've only got 5 left.

Did a good bit of my exercise today cutting grass in 97 degree heat plus humidity! Think I sweated off at least a couple of pounds. Try to do as many manual labor kind of chores as I can, makes me feel good about getting something done that needed doing and does my body good at the same time.

Did my grass mowing today also. Heat index here was 99°. Tomorrow through Saturday heat index is forecast to be 115° +, and all the weather stations and the NWS have alerts out! First real heat so far this year, and the humidity is up there. So like you people down south but for a few days at a time! Because of sun issues with several of my medications, I wear a SPF 100 on my face, and a SPF of 55 on any other exposed skin. I wait till the grass dries so usually after 4PM, to minimize the sun exposure, but the warmth is at its highest, ying and yang. 😏
Did I mention I have a mulching JD Z445 with a 54" deck? Working those levers really works your upper body! 😉 Did the weed whacking last week, so maybe a week or two till that rears up again?
This morning had a good workout on the airdyne bike, weight bench for arms and legs and the prescribed PT stretching. Getting close to matching snubby on weight, well +100# 😋 Weighed in at 280# this morning, down from a high of 315# last summer, so improvement is happening! My all time low ever is 185# but that was in 1984, after some serious medical issues and a period in the hospital. My goal right now is 250# but that is a long term goal, with plateaus along the way! My horse is my judge and jury! 😘

Had a good workout at the Y today.
I use the machines. I don't trust my hands and wrists.
Tried doing incline dumbbell presses once. Almost dropped a weight on my face.
Actually, we made it a point to overdo it a bit. Won't be going back 'till Saturday.

Tomorrow we're gonna go camping. It's supposed to be sunny and in the 90s. We picked a spot with a clearing and I'm planning on spreading out a big towel and napping in the sun.
We have the bug spray ready.
I'm sure I'll get lotsa exercise collecting and cutting wood for the fire. We'll need a good ash base for cooking the hot dogs.
Yes, there will be beer.
I'm planning on doing a camping video.

It's another wonderful morning where I have no excuse not to go for a walk. Two years ago I could not have done the walking I'm going to do today. Last year I could have done it then needed a couple of days of recovery. I walked 11.3 miles yesterday and spent 20 minutes on the weight machine. I hope to do that much again today, but it has taken me almost two years to get to this level. You have to work with what you have, but if you give up you will not improve your condition. I do not have to go walking this morning, I get to go walking this morning! It's going to be hot, and by the time I get back I'll be running a caloric deficit for the day, but I want to be stronger and lighter, and most of all a want a beer. Have a great day.

Kwselke I have read many of your beer reports and have been amazed by your knowledge of the brewing art. If being able to have a beer without having a guilty conscience drives you then go for it! Seems a number of people use a reward system to keep themselves dedicated.

Its really bad here as well. We dont get beneficial rain--it rains a few minutes and stops-the clouds disappear, sun comes out and you sweat rivers instead of droplets.

I weighed out these chicken tenders this morning and they came to 11 ounces raw. Comes to about 335 calories. I dusted them with Cajun seasonings, tossed them in a hot pan coated with a bit of canola oil to keep them from sticking. Pan and all go into a 425 degree oven 4 minutes per side. The two small ones made an overstuffed soft chicken taco. The tortilla was 90 calories. A bit of fat free sour cream and various salsas, a bit of romaine lettuce, and a touch of extra sharp cheddar make for a great meal. I still have the big tender and 300 calories left for later in the day.

I also eat quite a few chicken tenders and have gotten to like them pretty well but I need a little red meat once in a while. I have them cooked in Italian style dressing ,quite often with a salad.

Darn summer cold sure puts a crimp on any kind of excercize ! 😞
Hope I am on the downhill side of this.
Haven't had a cold in many years!
Heat index outside was 110° degrees today! So except for taking the horses over to the pasture and bringing them back this evening been enjoying the AC. Won't enjoy the utilitity bill this month. 😢
Forecast says two more days due to a hot lid over us?
Susposedly limits thunderstorms? Advanced forecasting in play here? 😉

"Susposedly limits thunderstorms!! Advanced for casting at play here!"
Well, advanced has a different meaning than I am used to !

We are towards the end of the biggest, noisest thunderstorm for us locally this year.
On radar appears to cover most of middle eastern Iowa. Came from the north and is now progressing west to SW!
Will check the guage when it gets to be daylight and see how much it rained? Sounded heavy at times.
Temperature is now 71°, so that is good! Hope it stays reasonable once the sun comes up, and drives the moisture out of the ground.
Guage shows 1-3/4". Creek is moving along about 1/2 full.

I woke up feeling very good, even though a walked another 10.6 miles yesterday. I'm hoping for another 11 or 12 miles today... if the joints hold and the muscles do not seize up.

As a suspected would happen, my weight dropped suddenly going into zero beer and increased exercise mode, then has remained constant the last three mornings. My clothes tell me the weight is redistributing.

Two mornings ago for about two miles of a seven mile walk, I walked along with a lady about 70ish. We were cruising at a sub-17 minute per mile pace. Just chatting. Yesterday she reappeared out of the darkness and handed me two notes, she said read them when you get home. They were per-printed fancy little notes with artsy designs. One reads "Not all Who Wander Are Lost", the other "What's Meant To Be, will always find a way." I'm not sure what to make of that?

This morning I have ~7 miles of walking planned. Then a walk to the store for a gallon of milk and a couple of other things. After a light lunch I'll hit the gym to use their weight machine and the elliptical trainer. The 1,600 calorie per day diet is sustainable. I get very hungry from time to time, but as long as I'm aware of the calories I'm consuming and think about what I want to eat later in the day it is not bad at all. I'm finding logging of food keeps me aware of not only what I've eaten, but what I will eat each day.

Never give up trying. Have a great day!

Some people like to pass out cute/profound notes. Maybe she is making an acquaintance so that if she has troubles on the walk path there is someone to assist or call for help? Maybe she is just in need of another person so she feels acknowledged?

Kwselke, I don't know the numbers for fact but there are probably two or three times more women who come into my shop who are widows or divorced than men who are widowers/divorced. Have managed to hold down my calorie intake the last few days but I went to bed hungry last night! Going to have to save something for later in the day so I am not waking up because I am hungry.

Really puts a crimp on anything!
No temperature, but the coughing, sneezing, aching, stuffiness sucks! 😷
And today is my wife's birthday! Going out to dinner tonight! Maybe a miraculous turnaround by early evening? 😕

Stronger and lighter, works for me. That's my goal.
Actually, I think I'm sufficiently strong, I just wanna get more fat off.

Save a 100 calories for late in the day and have a cup of this HEB Baked Apple Greek Yogurt. It packs a whopping 13 grams of protein in a 100 calorie carton. I tried it for the first time yesterday as a snack after my 7 mile morning walk. It was quite filling, very nutritious, and tasted flat out wonderful. It will be part of my diet from now on even if I'm not trying to loose weight. Better than ice cream in my opinion. Even if you go over your calorie allotment by 100 for the day, this would be a good way of cheating within reason. There is bound to be an HEB in your part of town.

We're back. Had a great time on our camping trip. Didn't get as much sun as I hoped.
There was lotsa bugs, so, it was one of the few occasions that I used bug spray.
First we tried fogging. That worked for a little while but then the bugs started coming back.
The temperature at night was perfect for sleeping and we both slept very well, about 10 hours.
I woke up with sore muscles. Didn't seem to me like I did all that much. Mostly just collecting and cutting wood for the fire.
We're back home now and I've showered off that bug spray.

Yes, I got it on video.

I usually have a fat free yogurt about an hour or so before bed time.

The danger of logging your weight daily.

According to my bathroom scale I gained 0.8 of a pounds since this time yesterday. And at this time yesterday I weighed in at what I weighed in at two days earlier. I've been sticking to my diet and exercising real hard!

I would be discouraged, but physically I feel good, I've seen this happen before, my clothes are fitting better, and stretch marks are appearing on my skin as it tries to shrink with the underlying fat deposits. My weight on Monday morning compared to my weight last Monday morning will be what I use to judge how well I'm doing on my renewed weight loss program.

I have a National Hot Dog Day social to go to this afternoon. I'm going to reserve 600 of my self imposed 1,600 calorie daily limit for two mustard dogs, maybe I'll have enough calories left in my budget for a potato chip too! Have a great day.

I will soon be 68. I workout every day and watch what I eat. I've taken off 70 lbs since 2013. I think I actually lost more, but I also put on some muscle. You can't be sedentary once you retire if you want to live a long and quality life.

The people I have known who retired and didn't make an effort to stay active have ended up with all sorts of health problems or have passed on. The couch is not your friend. Tried the yogurt and it helps for sure. Getting more veggies into the mix too. Portion sizes are requiring me to work a little but make me realize where I was going with extra large servings of things that I like. Plate looks a little empty.

I never weigh myself more frequently than every two weeks. Create a nutrition and food plan with your physician/trainer/nutritionist, select a viable weight goal and timeframe, log your progress, and get fit!! And don't forget to tell us about your progress. This forum is a great place to find support and encouragement. Have a great Saturday.Health and Fitness Thread

Water weight can fluctuate by a few pounds depending on your diet. For me, I typically lose 3-4 pounds from Monday to Friday as I process out excess water from my cheat foods and beer on the weekend. Even though beer is a diuretic, the body responds afterwards by holding water (pendulum affect) and salty foods cause you to store water too. Also, if you're doing lots of exercise, you can sweat out 4-5 pounds in a day. In the NFL for example, during training camp, all the players weigh in before and after practice so that the doctors and nutritionists can track how much sweat a player produced so they can get properly re-hydrated for the next day.

Remember, 1 pound is 453.5 grams. 453.5 grams of fat is 4081 calories. Its highly unlikely for the human body to gain or consume even half that amount of fat in a single day regardless of diet and exercise.

Yes - down 33.5 lbs. since I started my summer fitness program on June 11 - need to buy new belts, break out my old suits, etc. 21.5 pounds to go to my goal weight and then my trainer and I (actually my incredibly fit teen aged athlete son and my physician) will kick it up a notch. I have never felt better or more energized!

I made some changes about five years ago. More cardio (swimming, rowing, walking, elliptical), less bread, no more beer, scale back on the sweets. Finally started eating small, healthy, meals five to six times a day. I dropped about seventy-five pounds over the next eighteen months. Blood pressure went down, waist went from 42 inches to 33 inches, cholesterol, resting heart rate, blood sugar, all went down. My weight has since stabilized and I'm at around 184lbs, but my waist size hasn't changed. It was worth it.

My secret? I just wanted to see my jawline again. No weight goal, no clothes to get into (though I can once again get into my old Army Dress Blues which I last wore in 1991) just get healthier and see my jawline instead of my big old moon face. In other words it became a day to day thing and it also became a permanent change.

I loved my career but it didn't do me much good health wise. Now that I am retired, I go to the gym six days a week and do 20-30 minutes cardio
and 30 minutes of weight/resistance training on the basic push/pull routine. Also golf, hike and ride my mountain bike. Still love a good beer or two.

Send some down this way. Though were still about 5 inches above average rain--we need it now.

Sounds like she made a pass at you.

It will be part of my diet from now on even if I'm not trying to loose weight. Better than ice cream in my opinion. Even if you go over your calorie allotment by 100 for the day, this would be a good way of cheating within reason. There is bound to be an HEB in your part of town.
Im not against a certain kind of yogurt, but the regular kind reminds me of flavored mayonnaise. The only kind I get when available here? is Nonfat Frozen Strawberry Yogurt.

We have a member who has posted multiple times that he does not wear pants but wild postulation could be that he foes not wear belts, but we are getting into TMI and dangerous territory! 😛
Perhaps that is why things went away? 🙊

Our shih tzu, Dylan, has been eating yogurt every day to assist his tummy since he was on a 28 day regimen of antibiotics since he tested positive for Lyme. Now he really likes yogurt! Yogurt has worked better than a canine probiotic supplement in restoring calm in his world! 😊

I have not had a cold or a sore throat in many years, until this occurrence! Started with a sore throat, then settled in my lungs. Not disagreeing or questioning the orange, vitamin C theory, but I avoid people, especially little ones, as much as possible now that I am retired. Seems to minimize a lot of negative issues and promotes harmony in my world. 🌈 Of course it can be said that staying away promotes harmony in others world also ? ⚡

I usually wear stuff with an elastic waistband. A shirt when required.
Anyway, tomorrow we're going to the Cumberland Theatre to see the musical "1776."
I'll be actually wearing proper clothes with a belt. We'll see how it fits.

A belt may tell the story but so does the squishy stuff around my midsection.
I may be putting on muscle weight but I've still got more fat to rid myself of.

Nice job. As far as belts are concerned, I got myself a couple of KORE belts and buckles. I'll never wear anything else now. Infinitely adjustable depending on what you carry and how you carry.
