Saw a New Jersey Gold Star Family License Plate Today
Recently I've been shooting, posting, enjoying -- and dare I say gloating about -- a WWII era M1911A1.
Today in a parking lot I saw a New Jersey License Plate with small letters at the bottom.
It looked like this picture from the Internet:
Very sobering

I'm not from New Jersey, but the MH could be for Medal of Honor. Gold Star is for killed in combat.

According to the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission the Gold Star Family License Plates will be numbered between MH1000-MH9999.
Eligibility for the plates will be determined by the Gold Star Mother's organization and provided by the MVC free-of-charge. Those eligible include spouses, parents, brothers, sisters, children, legal guardians or other legal custodians of any member of the armed services who dies while on active duty.

TN brought them out here a several years ago. I have seen only one. a car driven by a lady was pulling into a parking place at Hobby Lobby when I noticed the tag. I walked over, opened the door for her, stood at attention and saluted her and expressed my deepest condolences for her loss. she teared up a little and told me I was the first person who ever knew what it meant. I then explained I was retired military. lee

Being a life long resident of NJ, I never knew (or heard) that the Gold Star plate was in the offing! The last that I had heard, the state was supposed to be cutting back on the variety of special organization plates, because of the costs involved. I am extremely glad to see that they made this exception.

Sobering indeed, and I'm very glad to see these issued.
I recall very well the little window flags with blue and gold stars during World War II. My grandmother had one with four blue stars--fortunately never got a gold.
