Im currently watching the HBO 7 part series about John Adams and are liking it a lot. A bit or two of trivia--which I had not known before.

1) Who was the man that John Adams defended winning his first case circa 1770? And what crime was this man charged with? I know but, I aint tellin unless a few give it a stab?

2) To this day--the ""jury"" is still out about whether the British Captain-who was in charge of a body of soldiers--at the Boston Massacre. What was his last name--even more kudos if you can also list the names of the eight other British soldiers charged.

Forgot to mention-rather to ask--what did y'all think about the series as a whole-whether accurate or not? So far, im greatly enjoying it.

I have it on DVD and have watched it many times. An outstanding miniseries and incredibly true to life.

It's based on the deeply researched book by David McCullough written in 2001. McCullough spent years delving into every facet of Adams' life before even starting on the book. John Adams won the Pulitzer Prize for biography.

Stephen Dillane, who plays Thomas Jefferson in the miniseries, quietly steals almost every scene he's in, and of course Tom Wilkinson is faultless as Ben Franklin.

My son, (who majored in history in college) and I watched it together. We both found it to be very well done.my son said that it was very accurate. I too like Paul Giamatti and thought that his portrayal of Adams was very good. It's been awhile. Thanks for bringing this up. I think I'll watch it again!
As to the original question, I have no idea without looking up the answers, and that would be cheating so...

Thank you as well. I picked the dvds up about 2 months ago-but had many westerns to finish. Glad I bought these.

I wonder who plays John Hancock? which is also a hint towards one of the questions above.;)

PS, he inherited a very sucessful shipping business from his rich uncle.

Didn't see it. Can't get that channel. Saw the Bill O'Reilly-sponsored one on Fox. Thought it was pretty good, but Washington seemed a little pompous, his voice, like he was playing George Washington. But George may have been a bit aristocratic in real life.

I like that they showed the American use of the bayonet at Trenton. And explained why.

Problem is, these shows are on channels that most Americans don't watch. The mainstream channels won't show such things or would distort history or have the show about the war from a minority perspective, etc. It'd be about Jefferson's relationship with Sally Hemmings, not about his writing the Declaration of Independence.

Ive been watching O'Reilly's version-and enjoy it but, agree on those being George Washington-as well as Sam Adams ( Bills version) and think the HBO version is well made. Im slightly disappointed with the latest three from O'Reilly, it was mentioned before that we would learn more about blacks who served-which im interested in learning about. So far-not really much has been told BUT, I was surprised to hear some served with Colonel Rall's Hessians-which id never heard of before.

BTW--just a side tidbit on Colonel Rall-Gunther Rall of WWII fame--was directly descended from him.

This series is just more subtle liberal propaganda. Even the liberal History Channel admits it.

Network | What's Wrong with HBO's Dramatization of John Adams's Story

"... accolades, however, only compound the problem: since the show was well-done, dramatic, entertaining and widely praised, it will be all the more widely seen, and its audience will all the more readily assume it is definitive. Undoubtedly, it is already being used in classrooms..."

Which is, of course, the objective. To misrepresent the past to accommodate current political ideology to children and the misinformed.
