Yup knee injections. I have bone on bone in both knees. At night the pain is so bad any way I position my legs it hurts. After two bad falls it's a tad worse. I'm not a candidate for knee replacement. I went for knee injections. It lasted for six months. I was able to lessen the doseage on my pain mess. Now I'm do for another jiffy lube. It's working for me.

Been doing it every 6 months for nearly 4 years now. Only the right knee so far - but the left is showing signs of needing it. I've had Euflexxa (3 shot series) a few times, and Hyalgan (5 shot series) twice now, but have never tried the Synvisc (1 shot) variety. For me the 5-shot Hyalgan series seems to work the best.

I'm due for my next lube job in a couple of months. It is starting to wear off....

I get the same injection on my left knee. Sometimes 3 shots a year it works for me but working on your feet 10 hour days sure don't help.

I had only a 40% reduction on pain from my inj in my R knee, and it only lasted less than 2 months... much less than the same treatment I had on my R shoulder...

Why are you not a replacement candidate? Sounds like you should be.

What do chicken combs, chicken feet, and beaks have to do with knee problems and knee surgery?

What am I missing here? Is this something I should ask my doctor about?

I had the injection 2 weeks ago. Wow what a difference it's made. My pain is gone and the therapy is working.

I think you grind them up and inject them into your knee.

The procedure is actually called viscosupplementation. In this procedure, a gel-like fluid called is injected into the knee joint. It acts as a lubricant to enable bones to move smoothly over each other and as a shock absorber for joint loads. People with osteoarthritis have a lower-than-normal concentration of hyaluronic acid in their joints. The theory is that adding hyaluronic acid to the arthritic joint will facilitate movement and reduce pain.

I think an ingredient in the gel-like substance is chicken combs!

It's close to real cartalege as they can get. It takes away the bone n bone pain. I had the torn cartalege removed in both knees. I wish they could Krazy glue the torn cartalege. I hope they offer something new as a replacement cartalege soon. Maybe a hard silicone.

big brace

I had the 3-shot series a few years ago on my right knee. Helped a lot with the pain particularly during sleep. A few things not yet mentioned that help me:

1) Slide a thick pillow -- I put two older "king size" together -- under the knee while in bed. Helps remove strain.

2) Use a cane while walking. Top of cane should come to your open hand on your good side; i.e., opposite your worst knee.

2) I wear a big heavy knee brace designed by DonJoy for the VA during exercise & at the range. Takes a few fittings to get right. I used to wear it under my pants over a sheath but the velcro tore my skin after a few hours. Now I wear it over my workout pants & cargo pants. Protects the remaining tissue.

Many doctors seem to prefer injections to prosthetics -- canes, braces, & implants -- but the combo works for me. Good luck!

I had 4 injections approximately 6 months apart, before they no longer seemed to do any good. I'm now taking Meloxicam 15mg one a day, and I haven't been so pain free for years. It takes about 10 days to 2 weeks before they build up enough in your system to eliminate the pain, but then 1 p/day keeps the pain away. The great thing is they are cheap, less than $2 per mo co-pay.
