Default Strange? Or just the way things are?

I don't know if this occurs with other people but, sometimes an event, or information gained,or stories heard seem to follow some pattern or repetition.
Case in point.... I recently watched a documentary about Lewis and Clark on TV. Then there appeared a thread about the expedition here. Could have been that the OP saw the same show and was talking about it here.
But, it gets deeper. Reading the thread about the curviest roads here yesterday, one of the roads mentioned was Lolo pass in Idaho, I believe. It was one of the passes used by the Lewis and Clark expedition. Not too weird, except I had never heard of it before these two mentions.
And.... just today I recieved a set of Tyler T grips I ordered from an outfit in Tennessee.
The grips were wrapped in a page of their local paper. I started reading it just to see the local Tn. news and what do I find?
An announcement for the spring hours now being in effect at the Meriwether Lewis death and burial sight!
This kind of thing happens more than just occasionally with me.
It's to the point to where I can pretty accurately predict when a " Thread", for lack of a better descriptor, is going to develop.
Like I said, strange, or what?

Better that than the theme to Kolchak. And or Jaws.

Jessie, its really strange that this subject should come up. I often experience a similar thing but mine seems to be things that trigger my memory, an event, a smell or a sound. I'll give you an example.

The other day, my wife dug out a t-shirt for me to wear to the range. It was a shirt that I had to wear as a volunteer Range Officer for a Three Gun Match at a Soldier of Fortune convention in Las Vegas in '82 or '83. Well that got me to thinking about a bunch of Special Forces guys that I hung out with then. Well that brought back memories of a SF MSG that was a legend that they told me about. Then a few years later I became friends with a SF MSG who I shared mutual acquaintances with in our past. Anyway, I ran across my friends photo today and that got me to thinking about that SF legend, so I'm working on a thread about him.

Really weird how the mind works.

It's only because you are more aware of it. If you hadn't seen the show, then read the thread, you wouldn't have paid much (or any) attention to the local paper or Lolo Pass.

BTW, if you can find a copy of "Undaunted Courage" by the late Stephen Ambrose, it is a very detailed history of the expedition. I found it fascinating, and somewhat sad.

I'll look for that. I'm amazed that only one explorer and two Indians died during the whole expedition.
That's better odds than it was at home in those days!

They had several close calls from illness, hostile Indians, weather, and starvation. Luck was with them on more than one occasion.

It was an amazing journey by any standards.

Default "Synchonicity"

The 'Lewis and Clark' has a possible explanation. With a TV special or something draws attention to the subject and it's mentioned in several places. What puzzles me is completely unrelated references that happen at least 3 times in a matter of a few days. The only explanation I have for that is that your own mind gets tuned in to something that you would normally overlook and you notice things more. But even with that explanation the way some things keep coming up are downright eerie and I'm not a big believer in 'eerie'.

I'm sure that has much to do with it. I may not have noticed that article in the paper, but I doubt that since I'm a history nut. What makes me wonder is why did they pick that one page from the paper to wrap it in when they sent it to ME?!

Yeah, I see what you're talking about. That falls under the 'eerie category. I need to start writing these things down. It hasn't happened to me in a long time but it's a kick when it does.

Carl Jung invented the word. His 'definition' of it was modified over time but...

Jung coined the word "synchronicity" to describe "temporally coincident occurrences of acausal events."

It's a Gestalt thing. Ever notice that if you buy a new blue car, every other car seems like a blue one, too? We find what we are looking for, consciously, or not.

Very interesting. The further I went down the rabbit hole reading the links, the further over my head it got, though.
The initial definition of "effect" sounded close but it didn't expand much on that thought.

IMHO, there are only three things that combine to be the ultimate causal of all 'happenings'; physics, chemistry and happenstance.

I looked at 'Cognitive Biases' and was bowled over by the number of ways our minds 'bend' the truth or reality.
