USS Pueblo

In January of 1968 I was a Radioman 3rd. class that had just
arrived in Yokosuka, Japan to pick up my ship, the USS Arling-
ton, AGMR2. This ship was a communications relay ship. Think
aircraft carrier with whip antennas on the port and starboard
sides, and on the flight deck a satellite dish, low frequency
antennas, conical monopoles, RLPA antennas etc.

While waiting for the ship I frequented the Petty Officer's
club. While there I met a Communications Technician who
was waiting for the USS Pueblo to come in. He was a very
nice "Spook".

Well, my ship finally came in, and I got onboard. We steamed
out of Yokosuka for the Tonkin Gulf to relieve our sister ship,
the USS Annapolis (AGMR1) who was headed to Sydney, Aus-
tralia for a week of R&R. On that fateful day we got orders to
head to the Sea of Japan along with the Enterprise, Baine-
bridge and other ships as a show of force. The Annapolis had
to turn around and return to the Tonkin Gulf. We spent about
a week in the Sea of Japan, then left for the Tonkin Gulf
to relieve our sister ship.

To this day I still think about that Communications Technician
and how lucky he was not to have gone through what the
crew of the Pueblo had to go through. It was a terrible ordeal,
and one we should never forget.

visit by a tomahawk...

It needs to be visited by a cruise missile.

Before the recent Syrian cruse assault, I was unaware that a "time on target" could be done with missals! All 59 of those bad boys "crused around" until they were simultaneously moved out of orbit to hit that Syrian air strip at the same time! There's your medicine for the Pueblo!
