I'm a Freecell Junkie.
I have to play it all the time!
Even before I check my email, I have to pull up a game and play it. First thing in the morning and last at night. (well almost)
I tell myself, "It's good therapy for your brain." Whether it is or not, I have myself convinced it is! Does anyone else have this same affliction?

Right there with you Marty. Play it all the time. Keep track of my win percentage over 100 games. Not satisfied if I drop below 90%. My name is Bill, I have a freecell problem.

I have been known to play a few, too.
Hey- it's free!
There may not be a Free Lunch, but at least we got Free Cell!

Count me as hooked as well. It is a nice way to relax and to kill time while waiting for the wife to get ready when we are going somewhere.
Thank goodness for the "easy" game settings.

I've never played Freecell, but I have Finger Arts SolitairePro on my phone and it's an addiction. I just have to beat my high score.

After winning 1,000 games straight I decided I was addicted and did the cold turkey thing. I'm now a recovering addict who is afraid to play again. If the urge gets really strong, I go reload something.

I played freecell a LOT on Windows 7. I was not happy when they removed it from Windows 10. I looked at several Windows 10 versions and they are not near as good as the Windows 7 version or at least none that I found

I'm hooked as well. I have a slow internet connection and pass the down time with Free Cell and other times just for fun (I'm pushing 38,000 games). I use it in the morning to make sure my brain is awake.
I use to have a fairly high win percentage, until I decided I won't quit a game without beating it. Then my percentage dropped, but somehow it seems more satisfying. It amazes me that there are some games that if you don't get the first few moves right - you're DONE!

I played Freecell a lot until I started playing Spider Solitaire. Don't think I've played Freecell in over a year.

Couple of questions.
I wasn't aware, until this thread, that there was a statistics page. 62%. 23000 wins, 17000 loses. Longest winning run, 22. Longest losing run, 11.
Welshman said something about his win ratio, and the way he phrased it, if you quit a game, it doesn't count? If I'm stuck and there's no way I see to win it, I quit it, and it's NOT a lose, but if I continue until it tells me I lost, it is?
Someone else said something about "easy games". On Spider Solitaire they have "Easy, Medium and Hard", but I don't see that option on Free Cell?

The game on Solitare Plus has a minimum number of moves that need to be made in order to count it as a game. Once you reach the minimum you "lose" the game whether you quit, restart or go to a new game. On the Freecell on my desktop I cannot find a "easy, medium or hard" but on my game on the Ipod I have such a setting.

No, if you quit a game and/or restart, it counts as a game played and a loss. There are no options for "difficulty" of the games, but every game can be won.

I played a lot of Freecell on the Windows 3 box I kept in my office to do documents on. I never bonded with the versions I got on my Macs.
High addictibility factor, though. I have been in more than one judge's chambers where counsel had to patiently sit and wait five minutes or so while the judge finished a game. The expression that comes to mind is "breach of judicial decorum".

I can easily win 1000 normal Freecell games in a row. I had several thousand games with no loses on a new computer till I went off on another tangent. I have it set up where I only play in expert mode and can usually solve games at that level in under 5 minutes. Don't do it as much as I used to. Now I play the daily challenge in the morning and some of the deals where you are ranked against others by you time over a number of games of Freecell, Kondike, Pyramid, Tri peaks and Spider. I mostly rank towards the top. On the dailky challenge I have gone perfect for every month so far this year.
Ya I am a solitary junkie.
PS there is a way to set how difficult the level is if you become a premium user and there is a game that has never been solved by either man or computer.

I deleted all games from my computers - I found that I do not have the will power required to NOT play them if they are available. If only I could solve all of my problems that easily.

"Expert mode", "premium user" - are we talking about the same game? I'm talking about Free Cell that comes with Windows (apparently not 10). I don't have these options.

At some point my parents decided that they were going to win every single game of Freecell. I guess each game has an associated # with it, and there is some grand total of ways the cards can lay out. For many ages they had a notepad by the computer and kept track of the ones they had one. It was easily a couple of thousand games between the two of them. That computer doesn't work any more, but I know they both have it on their laptops. No idea if they still play it with such determination. I'll have to ask them when I see them this coming weekend.

I'm not familiar with Freecell, and not sure I want to. I'm a Spider Solitaire junky with over 23,000 games logged, I obviously have enough addiction problems.

I've played chess and Scrabble online, and had to quit both cold turkey. They consume my every waking moment.
Now, this forum is my only online addiction!

I love Freecell and play several games every day on my phone. I've played many thousands of games, and I'd guess that I win over 90%, but I'm not focused on that. I just find it mentally stimulating. And I don't give up on games I lose. I restart and play them again, and I rarely lose the same game twice.
My unique twist is that I don't play for speed, I try to win with the fewest cards possible going to the foundation piles. I'd guess that more than 50% of my wins are with nothing but the aces going to the foundation piles, but I've won 2 games in the past year without ever putting any cards in the foundation piles.

OK, I'm confused. How do you win without putting cards in the foundation pile? In the Free Cell game I play, the object of the game, and the only way you can win, is to get ALL the cards into the foundation piles.

If you built your run from K to Ace without putting the ace up to the foundation that would do it. Right?
Your final move would be to hit "autorun" and place the first ace to the foundation pile and the computer would run the game out.

I sometimes hope that nobody gains access to my computer and discovers how many solitaire games I have played. Now, no worries. Some of y'all make me look almost normal. Oh ya, Spider is the cure for a FreeCell addiction. Anybody have a cure for Spider addiction?

That's where the games apparently differ. In the Free Cell game that I play, once an ace is uncovered, it automatically is placed to the foundation piles - the player has no choice. Once that happens, when the two is uncovered, it automatically goes to the foundation piles, and so on.
Every so often, the next consecutive card doesn't automatically go up - I'm not sure why - but for the most part, they do.

You might check and see if you can negate that by unchecking a box. When it happens can you back up the move in case you don't want the cards to go up automatically?

No, there is no option to negate that. If a card is sent up "automatically", you can "undo" the move, however as soon as you make another move (unless you cover the card), it will be sent back up.
