Over the past month or so, I vaguely remember it mentioned within some of the threads, that people here have been successful at whittling down the selling prices on the guns featured in the Gun Library at Cabela's. I was wondering, for those that have attempted and gotten the Gun Library to budge, about how much (percentage wise) have you been able to move the prices you were more comfortable with?

Thanks!

I usually ask for 10% off because they, from time to time, have used gun sales which they discount everything int he library by 10%. I would start with more and then settle at 10% if they won't budge. All the 10% does is eliminate sales tax for me that is why I try to drive a 15-17% discount at least. I have only been successful a couple of times with them the rest of the time I can get the basic 10%.

I've always have been able to get them to come down 10-20% on guns in the $1000 to $2500 range if they've been there for > 6 months - sometimes more. Then while paying, I mention I am a vet for another 5%. They are not shy about charging crazy prices and I am not shy about spirited negotiating.

Yep I've had some good luck at Cabelas. Can usually get 10% off and buy the $100 gift cards for $80. Big eB*y usually has the cards available a couple of times a month.

Earlier this year I Walked into Cabelas near my house and went straight to the Gun Library as my normal route. There in the Glass case are two M41 smiths. One 5-1/2" heavy barrel priced at $1299 and one 7" field barrel one priced at $799. Up on the counter is a little sign that advertised 10% off used guns. I asked to see the 7" to see if anything was wrong with it. Looked OK, maybe a few small scratches but very presentable. Worked the action, borrowed a screwdriver to remove the grips to check for rework marks. I asked the guy why the difference in price and he just shrugged his shoulders. All looked fine so I said "lets write it up".
He informed me about the 10% discount so I was expecting to pay $720 plus 8.4% tax. Not a bad price for a M41 in the DFW area. Went up to the cashier area to pay out. Cashier scanned the tag and up popped the price of $449. I looked and exclaimed "I like that price a lot better". He went over to what I assumed was the manager and after a short discussion they agreed that, since that was the price in the 'system' , that is what they had to sell it for. Claimed somebody must have put the wrong price in. I'm getting happier! As he was finishing ringing it up, he said, "oh, you also get the 10% discount bringing the price down to $405. After all was complete, I left the store with a very nice model 41 for less than $450 including tax. It was a good day!

Cabelas discount

Cabelas discounting depends on the price they paid or consignors price if selling for someone, as well as how long they have been selling. Last month they took $100 off the price of $949 for me.

Got 150 bucks off a 600 dollar purchase at the Billings store. I think the gun had been there for a bit. It was an as new in the box Ruger Old Army. I mainly bought it because I had gotten a new 45 Colt cylinder at a gun show to fit it for 25 bucks. It had Stag grips on it. I didn't realize Ruger sold the guns with stag grips. I put a set of walnut Ruger stocks on it and sold the stags. A friend took a Weatherby rifle in he had gotten in a trade at a gun show and sold it to Cabela's and actually made a small profit. That would NEVER happen to me!!

I've never been able to negotiate/haggle with big box stores like Cabela's, so not sure how you guys are doing it. But I have bought firearms from them before and usually rack up enough dollars from the Club card and then wait for a good coupon, like the $20 off they usually send out every other month, to make the purchase worthwhile.

I don't recall how much, percentage wise, but, years ago, I got
something taken off a nickel-plated S&W M58 at the store in Dundee, MI.
I don't think I'd get it for the same price these days.

Might as well ask, eh?

Over the years since they opened the store in Wheeling, I have bought I suppose a dozen guns from Cabelas. Only one new one, and the rest were all from the Gun Library. I have always been able to get them to come down, sometimes more than others. I know that they are high to start with, so on these used guns at least, they have room to negotiate. I have gotten some really nice prices, and sometimes hardly anything off. I am going to guesstimate an average of about 10%. The gun library is pretty much the only part if the store that I go to, although I sometimes walk through the aquarium, and the African savanna diorama. I sometimes buy shoes there, but the Gun Library is always my favorite spot. They get some really nice stuff in, mostly too expensive for me. Couple of weeks ago they had a really nice collection of Lugers. Last fall they had a bunch of broomhandles. Always have a lot of nice long guns, but that is mostly not on my list of stuff to buy.

Best Regards, Les

Were they stuffing $100 bills in your pocket on the way out?

Gander Mountain is leaving....

Gander Mountain is going out of business this month, Cabela's changed their minds about opening up a store and a few others never materialized either. So it's kind of moot.:(

I've bought a few used handguns from Cabelas, and I believe I always got them to knock about $20.00 or so from the sticker price by just asking for their "best price". My personal best was on a Browning Hi-Power Mk-III. Asking price was (I think) $850.00, plus shipping cost from one Cabelas to the one near me (I think the shipping was about $25.00). The description indicated that only the pistol was listed for sale - no extras. Upon inspection, it appeared to be in excellent, and unfired condition. I asked the clerk if there were any extras, and he went to the vault to check. Glad I asked as he returned with the original factory box, documents, and a factory magazine.

I asked him to field strip it for me, and he struggled a bit before quitting in frustration. I asked him if I could try, and I promptly had it field stripped without any problems. The clerk then started looking at me like I might just know something about firearms. I found two small rust spots on the ejector, and on top of one of the rails. I placed my index finger tip on both, and left it there long enough for him to see them. I then reassembled the piece and asked him for the best price. He looked at the sales tag, glanced at the computer, and then said $550.00. I tried to keep my poker face on as I said: "...well, I guess that will be okay".

My very best deal from Cabelas Gun Library was a minty Model 60-7 for $250.00. I didn't even try to ask if they could do any better - I just pulled out the plastic and started filling out the forms.

Regards,

Dave

I don't get it with the Cabela's close to me-Lone Tree, Colorado store. They have two used 642 no locks priced at $449. My favorite local shop sells them all day long new for $419! They have a few older model 60s, nothing special on any of them that start at $499 and go up to to $999!!! All their other used Smiths are priced stupid high, especially considering that many don't have the boxes etc. and are in less than pristine condition.

The one gun I am interested in is a Uberti El Patron for $489 with the box, looks unfired. No dealing on it though but that seems like a fair, if not great price. I don't know, guess I'm just cheap.
