Caught the flick "Wind River" over the weekend. I give it a thumbs up:

Action, guns, good guys, real-bad bad guys. I'm talking BAD.

Violent, Not for the faint of heart. Snowflakes Stay Away. Trust me, it'll melt your snow.

"Inspired By True Events"

Moral of the Movie?
Attention bad guys, DON'T go up against a protective father, who's also a professional hunter, expert tracker, outdoor survivalist, and skilled rifleman. If you do make such a man your enemy, in the end you will lose, and you'll lose big.

I was around ther in 1988. It was some of the most beautiful country I've ever seen. Looks very Longmiresque. But this guy carries a more interesting rifle for a change. Looks like a Marlin.

I see it's from the same young writer as Sicario and Hell or High Water.

That's good enough for me. The fellow is a real winner and his
movies so far have been spot on for story and guns.

I see Gil Birmingham is in it. He was the Comanche/Mexican Texas
Ranger in Hell or High Water partnered with Jeff Bridges. Birmingham
is by the way a San Antonio born Comanche. I loved him as a corrupt
scheming American Indian business man in House of Cards.

Wife and I saw this in the movie theater today. I think many of you here would enjoy it, as I did, though there is a lot of sadness in there. My wife cried at one point.

Absolutely beautiful country -- I don't know yet if it was shot in Wyoming, but the winter high mountain landscapes are mesmerizing -- and a well-written screenplay that both entertains and gives reason for pondering. Lots of guns, long and short, in this one too, and the characters who carry them seem for the most part to do so realistically.

I liked the interplay between the native American and white cultures, which was done with skill, nice dashes of humor, depth, and respect.

Could have waited to see it on DVD or streamed, but this was a fine movie to see on the big screen. 4 out of 5 stars from me.

EDITED TO ADD: I read online that it was all filmed at Park City Studios in Park City, UT.

That's what IMDB says. About 22 miles ESE from Salt Lake City.

I saw it a week ago.

Very pretty setting, good acting although there won't be any academy award nominations.

Film noir in the West, drags a bit in spots.

Worth seeing sometime, no rush: DVD will be soon enough.

Thought this thread ought to be back up. Maybe the mods can combine with mine of yesterday?

The preview looked interesting now it is a go. I saw a t_shirt that said: Guns do not Kill People, Fathers with Pretty Daughters Kill People". I should have bought it.

You can get that T-Shirt off Amazon, Rick! :)

Just saw that trailer. I think I'm going to have to see this one.

Is Elizabeth Olsen a sister of Ashley and Mary-Kate? I see a family resemblance, I think, but Eliz. seems taller and prettier.

I read elsewhere that she is indeed a sibling. (Not that I'd have known nor recognize any of them if I bumped into them on the street, however unlikely.)

The movie is worth seeing, imho.
