Dog N Suds
Took the day off to drive three hours to one of my fav photo spots. Mingo Swamp NWR. Got there right when the sun poked over the horizon. After several hours of having fun and only seeing two people there it was time to head home.
Drove the back way to Cherokee Pass so I could get a burger and a frosty Dog N Suds root beer and found they closed.
I was sorely disappointed!!!!
Do you remember Dog N Suds?

There was a Dog N Suds in the small northern Missouri town where I grew up. The town had about 2000 population and our Dog N Suds closed in the 1970's. Now, if we drove about 25 miles to Quincy, IL we could visit a similar A&W Root Beer place.
I've still got one of those heavy clear glass mugs with the Dog N Suds logo.

Have one near me in Michigan. If it's not closed, it's very near to being closed. Last time I checked in, they weren't serving food inside, just car service. The quality had also dropped too. Pretty sad. If anyone is in the Grand Rapids area of Michigan, check out Yesterdog. Little dive hole in the wall with the best dogs.

In the early 60's there was a Dog N Suds in Waconda Il.
We'd all hop in the 1953 Packard or the 1963 Chevy Biscayne and drive from Chicago for Sunday lunch.
Used to bring a empty gallon glass milk bottle (Twinn Oaks) to have it filled with Root Beer.
It was empty by the time we got back home.

When I was a kid!
Oh yes the memories when I was a kid...we had a Dog N' Suds across street from where I was raised in Bellevue, Ohio...Mom used to send us over there with an empty glass gallon jug to get filled up with the best root beer I have ever had...I also still have 1 of their heavy glass mugs with the "dog" on it...if Mom could scrape together some extra $ which was not very often, we would occasionally go there for "supper." Sadly this one also closed in the early 1970's...I believe the franchise is still available...Thanks for resurrecting some pleasant memories of some of the best times I ever had as a kid...Roger

We were lucky. Growing up in the booming auto town of Pontiac (city actually) we not only had a Dog N' Suds, we also had an A&W. Plus, on the south end of town, on the north end of Woodward Avenue was World Famous Ted's. Great memories!

I never had the pleasure but it sounds great. It's hard to beat a great hot dog and an Ice cold beer or even root beer!
But the best hot dog I've EVER had in my life is the "dirty water" hot dog from a street vendor on the sidewalks of New York City. I'd heard they were good but until I tasted one I had no idea HOW good!

When I was a kid the folks would take us now and then to the area Dog N Suds in Findlay. I don't remember much about the food, only the big glass mugs and trays brought out and hung on the window. Dad used to call it the soggy duds(wasn't a judgment on the food -just Dad's sense of humor).

Used to be one in Bucyrus, Ohio that I'd stop at on my way from Columbus to Sandusky. I don't know if it's still there; that was a while back.

Going to Colts/Bengals games or the Brickyard, we never made it to DnS in Indy as there is an A&W stand half an hour before you get there.
No will power. I'm sure DnS was as equally tasty.

Wow, talk about bringing back memories.... I grew up at Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, and there used to be a Dog N' Suds right across from our grade school at the end of "the strip" by Bagnell Dam. I haven't thought about that place in a long time. Now I'm hungry for a chili dog!

Henry's was my dad's absolute favorite. He loved the burgers with grilled onions and was truly sad when they closed.
The family's Sunday trip to Henry's is a pleasant memory.(not for my sister as she was always stuck in the middle)

I'm not usually a fan of road food unless it's the Autogrill at the rest stops in Italy, but my husband drops in at All American in Massapequa NY when we are in the area.

A long time ago in Delavan WI, I had my first chili dog with a root beer at Dog & Suds.
Did I mention it was long ago.

Growing up half way between the big cities of Creston and Mt Ayr Iowa, we had our choice of A&W in Creston or the Dog and Suds in Mt Ayr. Either was considered a treat for a southern Iowa farm boy.

Smooth top 'Vette and a boat..., that's livin'!
If that's the top of the tilted outboard I see that boat will scoot!

If you're ever in the middle Georgia arena, check out Nu Way. Yummy. I want one today, but they are closed on Sundays.

They still have them in Lafayette and West Lafayette, IN, but I never make it there when I'm home visiting Mom - always have better food in mind. (My brother goes each year when they first open.)
Our local hot dog drive-in has some pretty tasty chile.

My wife and I had a van full of Key Club members in Oregon several years ago and stopped at a Dog and Suds. having never seen a drive in with real car hops in Fairbanks all those 16 & 17 year olds became 8 again and thought it was the greatest place ever. For that meal not a one cared about food allergies or fat they just enjoyed.

Our local Dawg House has been going strong since 1950.
Nothing like a double foot long, mustard, onions, and chili with a handspun milkshake.
Been going there 59 years, which is pretty good, since I'm only 58!! Yeap, Mom and Dad's date night spot, first nine months sort of got my fix in uteruo.

All through High School in the 50's it was either the Dog & Suds or the A&W drive inn's. Always took your date there after the movie, and parked way in the back so you could neck while waiting for your "dogs".

Certain foods transcend imagination.
A Hebrew National Kosher dog on a bun with yellow mustard onions and sweet relish.
Olive loaf sammich on white bread with mayo and mustard and lays tater chips (the thin greasy ones ) Smash and enjoy!

I too remember Dog n Suds in Toledo, but prefer Monroe's Original in Monroe, MI.
Take a drive up Telegraph Rd to Monroe's Original Hot Dog. I grew up on these and have them at least once a year when visiting family.
Go soon as they may close November 1st. Let me know what you think.
