Lithium ion batteries? Too small for a Stihl motor. Does it come in ATACS camo? Too many questions, think I'll wait for them to work out the bugs first.

Well, let's tell the whole story here. USA Today posted a video showing a typical AR-type rifle, then showed the church shooter's modifications to it.

Then it showed possible modifications to an AR-type rifle, and yes, a chainsaw bayonet was one of the modifications shown. Other mods shown are a trigger crank and an underbarrel 12-gauge.

They didn't claim that Kelley's rifle actually had a chainsaw bayonet mounted on it.

USA Today was soundly mocked on the Internet for the video, anyway, and they later issued a clarification.

All that said, there is such a thing as a chainsaw bayonet, and there's nothing new about it. It sells for around $800 and runs on a 20v rechargeable battery. It also comes with a t-shirt, bumper sticker, and ships free!

Don't believe me? Look it up yourselves.

So again, USA Today screwed up, but chainsaw bayonets are real. And there's probably some yahoos out there putting in their orders even as I type this.

At one time there were serrated bayonets. I read that in WW II, most armies had unwritten policies that any captured enemy soldier who was found to be in possession of a serrated bayonet could be executed on the spot. Serrated bayonets became fairly rare thereafter. What would WW II G.I.s do if they captured a German or Japanese soldier with a chainsaw bayonet? Put him to work trimming hedgerows? I think we know the answer to that one.

That looks and sounds stupid and ridiculous. I am waiting for the lightsaber bayonet myself.

As soon as they come out with lightsabers, I’m selling all my handguns. Nobody has no lightsaber signs up on their storefront doors right now.

That's because it is stupid and ridiculous. A chainsaw bayonet falls into the Sucker-Born-Every-Minute category of gun accessories. Or maybe one of the selections in The-Five-Stupidest-Things-You-Can-Hang-On-A-Picatinny-Rail category. But there are apparently enough goobers out there who will buy one of the things, or make their own in an attempt to out-bubba their buddies.

I know one thing, though. If I was ever dumb enough to let myself be photographed even holding one of the things, I'd make damn sure my name wasn't visible.

Some rifles used in the Civil War had coffee grinders built into the stock. Sharps made about 100 of them. Seems like now guys want a bunch of extra long rails on their rifles so they can attach as much tactical clutter as possible. So why not a chainsaw bayonet? Paint it black and cut tactical shape lightening holes in it and it will fit right in. But only if you are wearing your $70 tactical pants and are all wrapped up in some sort of thing with lots of nylon straps. Just don't forget to bring along a tactical pen.

Can't wait to see the CA / MA / NY compliant version....

Larry

Lets see. Maybe they will require a hand crank to turn the blade or the chain saw blade to have rubber teeth. The right handed version will be illegal but a loophole will allow the left-handed model to be OK. I'm sure, drive-by chain saw assaults, will become the "in thing" for gangs.

IIRC in WWI the serrated bayonets were used to cut through barbed wire and smaller obstacles. So a chainsaw bayonet is a high tech solution to that problem.

You guys are totally missing the point of this. The USA today thing is a thinly veiled mockery of the AR owners in the country, making them look like complete and utter buffoons. I can't believe it made he light of day on this forum. Remember that people not knowledgeable about these guns see this and think gun owners are total whackjobs.
Jeeze....................

Not all of us missed the point. But what to do about it? It's already out there, the fat's in the fire...can't make it disappear, now can we? Best course of action I can see it to poke fun at it. USA Today has already been raked over the coals by thousands of people on social media, and even in other print and online media. So much so that they realized they look like a bunch of fools and printed a clarification of what they really meant.

I know some people who own ARs and other guns who really are complete and utter buffoons. And don't try to tell me you don't, too, okay?

I can't believe it made the light of day on this forum.

Aw, c'mon. I know you've seen worse things on this forum, so I'm at a complete loss as to why you're surprised that this showed up here.
