Default Rear Storage Solution for 4 door Jeep JK

The “Gun Storage Solution for Vehicles” thread was really about the law in CT, so I’m starting this to discuss specific solutions. I’ve got a 4 door Jeep Wrangler JK, with the 9 speakers, including a subwoofer in the deck in the back. I would like a mountable storage box with pullout drawer(s) that doesn’t mount over the speaker. Would prefer Simplex lock, needs to fit a rifle, plate carrier, thigh rig, pistol box, maybe some other small stuff.

Any suggestions? Anybody else struggling with this? I’ve exhausted my Google Fu, and I’m not feelin’ what the local trick out place offers . . .

Depends on how and where it's mounted. I can either aim mine towards the front of the truck, or I can point it upwards or to either side.

Well, speaking for myself, I'm not going to put something over the speaker or in front of it, especially some sort of equipment box with stuff inside that'd probably vibrate and rattle from the speaker's sound. Not going to muffle the sound in something I paid big bucks for.

Yeah, no. The requirement, explained in the OP
, is that the speaker not be covered. Thanks for trying . . .

Just a thought.

If you have a hardtop Wrangler you might look at the concealed sub-roof compartment Grenadeacorp offers. I have one and would recommend it.

I had a 1974 K-5 Blazer with a roll bar and rag-top. I had a Quadraphonic 8-track stereo. I had mounted speakers so that the R-L & F-R center point was between the front bucket seats. To get that accomplished I raised the back seat 2 additional inches and mounted speakers facing foreword. You may need to consider relocating a pair or two of the speakers. Behind the rear seat was huge compared to what you have to work with; 22" from seat mounts to tail gate! About 3 inches less at the seat top. I had mounted an auxiliary fuel tank with a Stainless Steel lockable tool box from TSC above that and had molded plastic "Saddle" Bags (storage boxes) that came from the rear floor, up and over the wheel wells, so wall mounted speakers were out. I had a second speaker for the CB behind the driver's seat/between the roll bar and inner wall (the CB was on a slide mount with a speaker facing the driver, under the dash/below the stock radio) So, it didn't matter if I was riding with the top or the sky above me, I could hear the Doobie Brothers loud and clear.

I had add-on mud skirting like Jeeps used on all 4 wheel openings, I went mud running several times topless. Not on square inch of exterior paint was showing when done, but the soupy mud never came inside! My niece was as young as 3 when I'd take her mud running strapped in her car seat, she remembers it 40 years later. The wild ride and wild music!

Is there a LEO supply store near you that has a vehicle modification division? If so, there may be a supplier of the items you want for your Jeep. Dana Safety Supply has offices across the country; search for the store nearest you.

I looked into this. $700, I have to drill into my roof, it’s just a flip down aluminum pan, no lid, with some nylon panels and straps. I need something I can use roof on or off.

I’m aware of Dana. Closest one is Memphis, and their customer service is suspect, based on what I’ve heard. Plus, a Jeep Wrangler JK ain’t exactly a fleet LE cruiser . . .

I appreciate the story, but you may as well have been telling me about your trip to the ballet. I was pretty specific in the OP and follow up post(s) . . .

It can be very frustrating when you have an idea of what you want and no idea of how to accomplish it. I don't see any way you can find it "Inside the box", so think about all those options outside "the box". Maybe you can mix and match a few and come up with a solution.
